  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

MY2013 TE511 Clutch not disengaging.

I haven't ridden my 511 in two months and brought it out tonight as I'm supposed to do a 2 day DS ride this weekend. I had the dealer do the last oil change when they checked the valves back in Oct and rode it a few hours back in Nov so they used the recommended oil and the level is right. While I have cranked it about once every week or two I haven't let it warm up at all. It's only about 32* out now and I can't get the clutch to disengage. I've let it run for several minutes and have been working the clutch but so far it hasn't helped.

Other than letting it warm up what else can I do. I'm not much of a wrench at all but I can't see how it would really need to be adjusted anyway. If I can't get this figured out by early tomorrow morning I'll just skip the ride as it's 5 hours away and I want to ride it this way.

Have you tried to re-bleed the clutch, fill the resevoir at the lever and bleed the actuator at the slave cylinder. It should work. Not knowing what type oil was poured in the engine. Bleed the clutch anyway.

How many miles on the bike? Mine would not fully disengage for the first few hundred miles or so, especially when cold. just needed to be broken in.

About 700. Hasn't been an issue prior but then again I haven't ridden it since it got really cold.

Many dealers like to put 50&60W oil in the 449. Combined with cold temperatures, the clutch plates are not able to float and release.

I had a clutch not disengaging problem years ago with a Suzuki 500 2 stroke quad that I had put "Castrol oil" in the engine during an oil change and the clutch wouldn't disengage at all back in like 88'. I tried everything, then I told the dealer the problem I was having and he actually asked me did I use "Castrol" oil during my oil change? I said yes, and I drained it and went to another brand and the clutch worked fine immediately thereafter. I know this is just an old war story by now but these engines do have a sticker right on them to use "Castrol oil" The Suzuki"s Clutch would not even begin to disengage with that oil in it for nothing no matter how hot it was.

I've changed the oil per Tinken's suggestion and also flushed the clutch line and the issue is still there. I'm kinda beating my head against the wall here. So much for the 220 mile big D/S ride I had planned for the weekend.

The dealership is about 3 hours away and wouldn't be able to get me in until Tues or Wed even if I did make the drive. Any other ideas or suggestions?

I am with Kelly, have you tried to ride it ? Just be sure you have some room when you put it in gear. All of my dirt bikes turn the rear wheel when in gear on the stand with the clutch pulled in.

I just got back from about a 20 min ride and it still pulls. If I've got my feet on the ground I can keep from moving forward (I also weigh 250#) but if I pick my feet up and hold in the clutch it will still pull me at about 1 mph. I just talked to the dealer and they suggested pulling the clutch cover off and tightening something inside. I may or may not try it myself but either way I'm throwing in the towel for the day. I'm really bummed as I was going to do a 2 day Enduro ride and camp out with friends in SC which is about 5 hours away.

if your doing a 2 day enduro with friends cant they help? yeh 5 hours but give one a call and ask if he knows how to adjust a clutch 99% sure they would prefer to tinker before the ride than ride with out you.

I guess I chose the wrong term. Replace "friends" with some guys I don't know that well. One's a friend and the others might help but at this point I'd be the guy showing up at the campgroud at 10pm asking for help and that wouldn't be cool. It's a big organized ride so it will go on without me.

So it works but creeps forward some? you know there is an engagement adjuster on it right? Fiddled with that?
