Hey guys,
As I posted up before, just bought a 510. After a few hiccups after taking delivery, It's back in my shed and semi dismantled. I was a bit hasty when it came home and didn't get any "before" pics, but I'll shoot some tomorrow.
As far as i can tell, it's standard, aside from the radiator guards and bash plate, and the missing side covers for the air box (is this common/normal?). My main focus at present is pulling it down, inspecting everything, fixing any problems I find, then ride and enjoy it. So far, some of the issues I've come across are;
tank fairing inserts are stripped, have searched and found a few different possibilities for repair. I can't get the old nutserts out though, I've tried jamming with a screwdriver and a pick to no avail. I'm ordering new farings from UFO to go on after the first few rides as the current ones are well worn, so they can stay on for the time being. I was thinking about freezing the tank to make the plastic less malleable, I'll let you know how it goes.
I'm not too sure if they have a thermo fan from factory, a few I've seen do, but this one does not. May have been taken off, if so I will replace. (this explains the spare plug behind the headlight)
The dash, when i purchased the bike was on the blink. speedo was erratic, hi beam light always on, and neutral light came on when in top gear. They couldn't fix it, so supplied me with an aftermarket unit that whilst not having a neutral light or hibeam, has temp gauge, lap timer, average speed etc. After I got it home I had a tinker, got the speedo to work, and the neutral light, hi beam is still questionable. Tossing up between keeping what I have and trying out the new one.
It's going to a reputable suspension shop to have everything set up for the type of riding I'm planning on doing (Enduro & desert rally) and after a few shakedowns I will make some finer adjustments to suit how i ride, if needed.
I've taken the graphics off, they were starting to peel a little.
Rear shroud (muffler side) had a spinning nutsert, could not be salvaged, so smacked it out with a cold chisel and will press a new one in tomorrow.
Removed the go awful number plate holder that the dealer puts on the back of all of them, cut it down to a little tail tidy. Will install flush mounted indicators in a few weeks.
That's al i can think of at the moment. It's pretty run of the mil for me to buy a new bike and strip the guts out of it, re grease, re tension and re gasket anything i can find. I used to work in a fastener store, and before i left bought a few boxes of button heads which have made their way on to every bike I've had.
If anyone familiar with this model could reply I'd appreciate it, there are a few things I'm not quite sure of and would love some assistance and guidance. All a part of learning a new brand, and so far I'm loving this one
