  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Lower Seat from 2010 Special Parts Catalog

Husqvarna
AA Class
I ordered a lower seat (Part number 8000H2442) back in mid December from Halls. It arrived today (along with the new, improved mid-pipe boot guard 8000H2212).

When I put it next to the stock seat, I was unable to tell the difference. It came without the dzus fastener, but it was easy to pop the plastic washer off the old one and reinstall it on the new.

Side by side seats (not scientific as perspective is off).

Sitting on the new seat it actually felt HARDER :jawdrop:

It did not seem to be all that much lower either.

Anyway, after putting it on and taking it off a few times to compare the hight, I would say it gives you a 1/2" to 1" lower seat. Not what I was hoping for (35mm = 1.4 inches) but still an improvement. Now I can put two tippy toes on the ground instead of one.

I am guessing that when the seat gets broken in a bit it will soften like the stock one did and I will get a bit more of my toes on the ground.

The plastic mid-pipe guard looks great and fastenes with a beefy hex bolt into a milled aluminum washer on one end, and a flimsy zip tie on the other. The thing will probably never fall off, however. No more burnt pants?

Lower seat with pipe guard.

That seat in the pic doesn't look much lower at all. I tried to "cut down" mine tonight, butchered it, and think I will now have to order a new one. oh well. Post back if it softens a little.

had one of those guards on my '09 txc 250,you wont burn your pants again,my milled washer pulled through and I had to use a couple well placed zipties to hold it on where it bolted to the exhaust, and I ended up running a ziptie through the side panel,my leg kept pulling the guard forward from under the panel

JasonfromMN: I might take my stock seat to an uphostery shop (or out to Gutts) to get it cut down. I see the posts showing guys shaving down foam with an electric turkey knife and I think about the lousy job I have done on Thanksgivings over the years. No way I go at this myself. Not much room for error on these thin seats...

Perhaps you could try a nearby shop for a fix? It took me more than three months to receive the low seat so I would look into a solution soon.

fury1: Good to know the plastic one works. I seem to burn my pants when stopped, off the bike, leaning into it like a human kick stand, while turned around waiting for my buddies to catch up. If the lower seat works as I hope, I wont have to hop off while stopped. Maybe two reasons I won't burn my pants...

Dang, just realized I dont like to cut the turkey for the same reason!

I did both of our seats with a turkey knife and finished them up with a disc sander (the kind you attach to a drill). The best thing for me was to not only shave the top closer to the seat pan, but also to cut the sides in as much as possible. A narrower seat makes it easier to get your feet a few extra millimeters to the ground.

Take a cheese grater to it and you'll fix it. Use the side with the stars.

Lower seat with pipe guard.

Do you really think it dropped a whole inch? How much did it cost?

I just got mine in the mail too. It is definitely harder than the stock one. Not as low as the seat I cut down myself. Side by side it looks about 3/8" lower than stock. Maybe more, but it doesn't look like much.

On some of my street bikes I used to wet the seat foam and put it in the freezer for a few hours then take it out and use a belt sander or palm sander to shape it, worked like a charm. You'll obviously need a deep freezer or large freezer and have to work fast! Picked up my 310 last week and I will be trying it on that very soon.

Anyone want to sell their stock seat if your buying/want to buy a lower one? I cut mine down a little bit, f-ed it up and had to cut it much lower than I wanted to fix the f-ed part. Now I dont like it.

Why not send your seats off to XPC or similar to have a custom seat made? Yeah, it may be a few dollars more than a new stock seat, but it's much nicer than stock, more comfortable, and made to fit you.

Update on the seat and pipe guard:

Seat has broken in and give me about an inch lower ride. Nice. Still feels hard as a rock, but no worse than the original seat. Funny, my brother in law was breaking in his new high seat (extra inch for a KTM EXC450) and it was as hard as the stock also.

The pipe guard is still going stong, but I managed to have the fancy bolt and washer shake off the bike on a new years ride. Bummer. Silly zip tye managed to keep on the bike, however. Going to have to figure out a solution. Hopefully they sell just the bolt/washer combo at the dealer or I will be rummiging through the bins at the hardware store...

Anyone try calling SDG? http://www.sdgusa.com/mx_seats.php They don't list any Husky's but with the interest you guys are expressing maybe they might consider? I used a few of there bicycle seats and they were all top notch. Their MX seats are cheap and good quality. I have tried a few out and at $120ish you can't beat the price.

Acerbis also makes one for $199 for those of you looking to replace or modify might be cheaper then a genuine Husqvarna one. http://www.acerbis.com/seat.php?id_categoria=8&idp=3188&ids=60&id_categoria=8

Is this more comfortable and or lower than stock? also wonder is it a complete seat? And do you know how it compares to the seat Concepts seat?

Check these guys out. Seat Concepts.... http://seatconcepts.com/

I got about 600 mile on one of their seats and love it so far. Its definitely softer than stock but more importantly is a bit wider too and that helps to distribute the weight over more surface. Less monkey butt as well.

Not sure if they make a shorter seat but I bet they probably could or at least tell you the best way to do it.

I had a tough time sourcing a lower seat and eventually modified my own. It is a little hard but I put in some gel pads and it works fine. See pic below
