Chuck and his brother were local racers here in the NW (Oregon) and when i was in high school we used to go out and watch them mop up on the field on Honda's. this was i think right before the big honda contract and national win. He was also the Berg rep for a while not to long ago and used to see him around here quit a bit. One of the Berg ads was shot at a favorite ride spot of mine. Washougal has a "chuck Sun" jump named in his honor.
I recently scored a pair of his Sun riding pants, still looking for a jersey. I emailed him asking what the lettering on the side said- assumed it was Chines because of his heritage. Funny thing, he said, that the writing is Japanese and it's a translation of his last name. Now you know!
They took the 'Chuck Sun' jump out at Washougal..... Great track, especially on the vintage bikes! My TT500 loves that track!
Cool, dual rear shocks....now there's a blast from the past. My 79' YZ80 was mono-shock, Yamaha was definitely setting the trends back in the day as I can remember my 81' YZ125 was the first motocrosser that was water cooled with the radiator mounted up in front of the handlebars. Not to mention the whole four-stroke revolution with the YZ400f in 98. Sorry for straying off the original topic.
Hey! They stole little detail ideas from my old Husky!.. JK I remember tying a knot in the clutch cable to gain adjustment at the perch. And the tie-wrap on the spark plug wire. Thats funny. Dave
