  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

kickstarter decompression problems

Husqvarna
last week i purchased a 2013 tc250 with under an hour of use i am a long time ktm 2stroke owner and my son wanted to try a 4stroke, after purchasing we have found that it is extremely difficult to kickstart we thought we were just not use to it after finding this website and doing research i have come across posts about the decompression sticking and not working properly which could possibly lead to a broken kicstarter shaft. i will be in contact with Halls (not open today) but i would appreciate any info, insight on this and will be appreciated

Mine did the same thing including breaking off the shaft. I removed the valve cover and pushed it back into position with just my finger. OK now but sure it will stick again . The backordered shaft is now replaced by a kit. $100 instead of the $37 for just the shaft. Customer support sucks. They say they will help but then do nothing

Might be sticking but could also be the same issue as with many of the te310s. The exhaust valve activating the decompressor may simply need to be tighter, even though may be in spec. For me is caused a super stiff kickstart and made the starter labor and click. Tightening the single valve made kickstarts easy and starter turns over without bogging down. In any regard. pop the valve cover and see.

I may be reading this wrong, but It is the centrifugal decompression lever that actuates the valve, not the exhaust valve actuating the decompression mechanism. Valve being too tight, I would think you would burn a valve seat right quick.

Oops (sinus infection affecting my writing).... What I meant to say is the shim for the valve that the decompressor acts upon may need to be replaced with a thicker one. Mine was in spec but problematic until was tightened to the tight end of spec.

Ahh. Got it. That's a great idea for something to check out. Hope you feel better. Damn sinus infections suck!!!

Yes, SB.... Didn't hear about Zaca. That's too bad. Only places I've ridden the last year are Dvvide Peak, Upper Oso and West Camino Cielo. Ballinger Canyon .... Heading to and around the NW for a few weeks when I recover. All this rain should be good for riding.

Parts arrived today. So called "updated" kick start shaft with new kick start lever connector to the actual lever. 6mm bolt and a spring. Shaft made in Taiwan an adapter connector made in Indonesia. !!! By the way, there are no more available anytime soon I'm told. I see no "upgrade" to this part. Dimensions look the same as the old one. I will try to upload pictures of the parts ASAP. FYI. Part number for the "new" kit is 85401193. It's surprising how many dealers don't know a damn thing about this part number change. List price is $90. I got it from my favorite and only dealer I trust. GP motorcycles San Diego. Talk to Paul Lima and give him your business. He's a straight shooter. BTW, Husky customer support still basically telling me to "F*** OFF AND GO AWAY" I will e-mail them until the day I die, or until they admit the problem and give me my $90 back. Principle of the thing !!!
