  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Installing a headlight on a 2010 TXC 450

I am looking to buy a 2010 TXC 450 and would like to install a headlight and taillight on the bike.

Does the TXC have a lighting coil?
Can I install a TE headlight on the bike?

I installed a headlight, taillight, and turn signals on my husband's 09 TXC. Here's what you need:

Headlight (Trailtech X2 for ours)
Wiring of various colors (don't bother with the cheap stuff from Ace...it just breaks)
Wiring diagram (in your manual) for your bike. I also obtained a wiring diagram for a TE to use as a template.
Taillight (DRC Edge II for us)
Rear brake actuation switch (can be purchased at Rocky Mountain for cheap - Tusk brand works well)
Electrical connectors - will vary depending on the headlight

I went with LED everything (except headlight) to keep the load low and haven't had any problems with anything. The stock stator seems to handle the load fine. Under the tank is a mysterious plug that goes to nowhere that has positive and ground that you can work off of. On my husband's, I also installed a handlebar switch (Tusk) for the turn signals and high/low/off for headlight. The turn signals will also require a turn signal relay (once again, Tusk sells one), but I think the turn signals were a waste of time as they got broken by trail obstacles. I also put on a horn.

Of course, this was on a carbuerated 09 so I didn't have to worry about any EFI stuff. Wiring may be completely different on a 10 also.

Unfortunately, none of this is plug and play and it took a lot of work between finding the right combination of parts and creating the added wiring harness with connectors. In hindsight, I wish we had just gotten a TE with everything all street legal.
