• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Indian Husky clone by TVS Motor Company: RTR 250 FX (+ action video)

Boogie

Husqvarna
Pro Class
The RTR 250 FX by TVS.
This bike was posted in TT about a year ago, so was built/developed when BMW owned Husqvarna. I assume the exhibited bike is built in India by TVS Motor Company, however, the bike in the action video is different and looks like a real (rebadged) Husky. BMW recently signed an agreement with TVS, after they sold Husqvarna to KTM, so I'm not sure how this bike fits into the future. It is not an advertised model on the TVS website.
Here is some info and an action video with India's MX champ onboard.

A "Husky" with a "KTM" engine. I find this all very weird considering the recent sale to SP. I think there's been some piston strokin' going on behind closed doors, and for longer than might have been initially apparent... Just sayin.

Must be a pretty hard bike to take all that jumping ... Looks good too as what it is ... Italian styling supersedes all ..

...mmmm. A bike designed by Cagiva (Italy), owned by BMW (Germany), powered by KTM (Austria), built by TVS (India). How did that come about?

Hey, there's two Men in Black with german/austro accents knocking on my front door. I wonder what they want at 3AM in the morning.....

The bike Santosh is on has the X-lite redhead in it, not the same KTM copy as in the cycle show. Very strange things going on......I do like the blue plastics.

I tried to have a close look at it and to me it still looks like the KTM engine and they have just painted the valve cover red. Either way, both the KTM and the Husky engines are now owned by SP/KTM. So does the chassis design for that matter. BMW would no longer have no rights to any of it. So if BMW have an arrangement with TVS (as SP/KTM are aligned with the competing Bajaj company), then how would TVS forward with this bike?

Not sure on any of those questions but looks like bmw is hedging in here pretty hard against the bajaj crowd with this first strike bearing Husqvarna credentials ... SP and all players had to be 100% on the inside of this tvs deal also ... So what does it mean? lol ... They must be OK with it till further notice ..

Still need a couple more days to get over the clone shock ...

Husky engine, KTM engine, doesn't seem to be too hard for a major MFG to move some little engine mounts around. Perhaps we are seeing a glimpse of SP's new plan? Grab a build sheet and check the boxes: Let's see, I'll take a PDS frame (check), X-lite 340cc motor (check), 6-speed (check), wide ratio (check), EFI (check), Ohlins shock (CHECK!!), tall soft foam...

If only we could do that at the dealer.

I might be going out on a limb here, but given the new company alliances and the fact that BMW probably have a couple of million spare kymco motors sitting in the goods despatch department in Taiwan right now, what better way of moving them on would be to build a new (old) TVS G 450 X ? Whats stopping them? Just change the stickers.

This single engine in question seems to be sort of a loose, slow firing cannon and its kickback is pointing bmw all over the dirt riding world ... They are looking everywhere it seems for some dirt biking revenues :0) ...

That's an interesting bmw dirt bike forever apparently ..

The plot thickens...

Also, his bike late in 2012 seems to be exactly a 2012 TC250 Husqvarna.
Check out the X-Trig triple clamps. Nice!
His bike is the "real deal" and the bike at the expo is not... work that out!

For comparison, a 2012 TC250...

I may just see how I can get my hands on some of those blue plastics... group buy? lol

Yep read the comments ... Husky never had it so good ... Apparently Indians know a real dirt bike when they meet one :)

I'm getting the feeling this is an expensive bike ....

Gotta put this comment out here ...

Well, at least we know what Bajaj got out of the deal... All the old Husky designs.. Where's the TVS 449? Or the TVS TR650?

So looks like if I want to stay loyal to Husqvarna, forget the KTM/ Husqaberg, and go get me a TVS, has much more in common...
