    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

IMS Tank Filling

I have a 2012 TE511 wit and IMS tank. Today I filled the IMS about 4" from the top and fill the stock tank full.

Gas is dripping profusely from be vent line.

Any ideas? Is the IMS back filling the stock tank? The IMS has a check valve?
 
Yes the IMS tank will back fill the stock tank. The vent line must be routed above the fuel level in the IMS tank. My vent line goes up to the center of the handlebar and then down to under the engine. I recommend retaining the stock vent pressure relief valve at the highest point in the vent line.

What about shutting the stock main tank petcock until the IMS draws down?

That depends on how the IMS is connected into the system. The small FI pump tank is vented into the stock main tank so any fuel tank pressure from the IMS tank is present at the main tank vent line, even if the main tank valve is off, so the main tank vent must be above the maximum fuel level of the IMS tank.

While thinking about this I just realized that my vent line has the possibility of creating a siphon if the bike is ever on it's side with a full tank. I need to work on that.
 
Ok, so what's the answer?

How can I keep the IMS from backfilling the stock tank to where it pushes fuel out of the stock tank overflow and leaking gas all over?
 
The main tank is vented twice.

The left side out of the fill neck tees into the vent to the FI tank. The tee then goes up by the handlebar and vents into the IMS tank. The IMS tank is vented out of the top of its gas cap.

The right side of the fill neck is vented to the bottom of the bike.

Sooooooo, can't I just plug the right side vent to the bottom of the bike. All three tanks would still have pressure equalization ability through the IMS gas cap. The IMS cap is the high point of the system. I would just need to fill the stock tank before I fill the higher IMS tank.

Thoughts?
 
Reroute the stock vent to be above the fuel level of the EMS tank or just "T" it into the EMS vent.
