  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm not sure what the bike really is, but it looks cool and seems fun to ride!

I've been riding an '06 WR450f for a while and was in the market for a new woods machine. The choice was between the Husky and a new '14 YZ250f. Both machines were discounted nicely. The Husky won because of the estart.

The WR250 in my profile picture was a very good machine. The new Husky will need to prove itself before I will use it for a profile picture.

those 2000-04 huskys are hard to beat. Heck I even went back to them. Solid well built bikes that take a beating. I like the ergonomics on those (slim) with a taller seat. Look forward to your report. I really liked the FE350 I rode.

I added a plastic skidplate made by Acerbis. They did a good job making the skidplate. I spent 16 years in the plastic industry, and can tell you that they've done a good job for the $$$ they charge.

I agree. I put the same one on my 14 TC250. For $65 it's hard to go wrong.

wow ... Congrats and break'er in and post some pics and reports ... Today, I was just telling someone how important that estart button is for so many riders...

Thanks! I will post some reports, but it probably won't be until next summer. I'm riding in snow now, and prefer to put the old WR450 through that instead of the new Husky.

I went for my first slow break in ride last night. I was impressed with how snappy it felt - it would rev FAST. Keep in mind that I've been riding an '06 WR450F for the past while... Not sure if the fast rev feeling is from the efi, small bore, or light flywheel? Whatever it's from, I like it. Also - I am able to chug along at idle in 1st gear without giving it gas (which is a nice surprise), if I try that with the WR450f, it flames out.

All good so far.

I took the FC250 out for it's 1st real (on snow with no studs) ride today. I beat it like I beat on everything, didn't hold back at all. I'm struggling to wait until next summer to use this thing.... Might have to buy some Trellies for it....

I weigh 150 lbs without gear. The sag is correct as the bike came - I didn't have to touch the collar on the rear shock. I backed off the comp and rebound (both front and back) completely. The suspension feels really good. I think mine came with forks that aren't the 4CS because I don't have the comp and rebound adjusters on the top caps, just comp on both up there??? Whatever they are, they work nicely. I was hitting foot deep snow drifts coming off of the tar road and the bike feels almost as stable as my wr450, yet still turns. The wr turns like a jacked up 4x4 compared to the FC.

The good so far - The FC turns great, yet still seems fairly stable. The throttle response is 2 stroke like - that makes the bike fun, seems like the best of both worlds.

The bad so far - The panel that you remove to get to the air filter has a small crack already (where the bottom push in thingy is). The trans ratios are too close for forest road riding without winding the motor to extremes.

I think this bike is gonna be a fun singletrack machine! I don't plan to get rid of my WR450 though. It is tough to beat the big WR for forest road type riding. While the WR is a pretty big handful in the singletrack, it has so much torque that it seems to pull the wide ratio trans nicely (and still feels fast), where I suspect that a 250 with a wider ratio trans might feel a bit gappy and boring. Just a hunch though.

I went for the first hard singletrack ride today and am very impressed. I don't care who made this bike, it is hands down the most fun I've ever had in the woods. It does everything better than my WR450F. It isn't even close. It lugs down to 0 rpms without killing, then it'll rev to the moon. I shift it less than I shift my WR. Weird, but it works that way. The FC250 might even beat the WR in a drag race - It makes no sense, and I don't know how they did it, but this bike rips.
