Hello, My te 250 17 2 st idles fast and then comes to rest - there is a delay before it gets back to normal idle its noticeably different to my mates te 300 any ideas would be great?
The cable and slide are not sticking.

Hi Thx I should of mentioned I am running a Lectron the idling issue was the same with the Mikuni.

Lectron settings are as supplied by Slavens perhaps I should adjust the metering rod a touch?

If same issue with 2 carbs you could have an air leak. Easy test is to wave an unlit propane torch near potential leak areas a listen for an idle change. Cam

Check for air leaks! And then...
Adjust the rod 1/4 turn clockwise/richer
Basic Lectron tuning is adjust the rod until the bike starts and idles correctly. Idle screw should be @ 1 - 1 1/2 turns out. Fine tune from there.
Note which rod you have insalled when you have it apart.
Search the forum for Lectron and start reading.

Hi, Not sure where the leak would be if i have one - interesting the current idle screw position is only a bit over half a turn out and bike idles ok my mates bike is as you mention approx 1.5 turns out so i am thinking to adjust the metering rod?

If you are running the stock reeds, take a look there as well. Some have had issues with the stock cage not sealing correctly (warped).

The rod is lean if your idle screw is only 1/2 turn out. 1/4 turn richer can make a big difference. With my red 300 I go richer on the rod until it's hard to start or blubbers when accelerating, then go 1/4 turn leaner. I'd much rather err on the rich side.
Using that method with a 5-1xl rod the bike is now starting 1 kick cold and hot! for the 1st time ever  Pulls strong and clean from 0 to OMG! Plug is a little dark, but not wet and a few inches of spooge on the muffler after a couple of hours WFO through the woods.

Thx riding friday this week so i will try the quarter turn richer with the rod - new to the 2 stroke bikes not too sure how to check the reed valve if that is the issue - the bikes only done 600miles

There should be threads in here about the reeds. You have to remove the intake to look at the reeds / cage.

I would loosen and re-torque the manifold bolts and check the clamps are tight enough the carb won't rotate, but not so tight to cause damage

Thx for all the comments i adjusted the metering rod quarter turn richer the idle screw needed to come out a touch not much - rode the bike yesterday in the woods for 4 hours yesterday seems to be more smoke at idle the revs are still hanging on and the bike is not as crisp off the bottom so i think the reeds may be the cause of the revs hanging on so perhaps i will replace them and put the carby back to Slavens original setting.
Still had a great ride yesterday!
