  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I REALLY DO BELIEVE..

I am of the belief that the 449/511 is not dead. I believe that a bike wth this much potential cannot merely just drop dead because some company buys husqvarna bmw, chopps it up and ships it off to who knows where. A friend of mine owns a BMW 450X. You can see the genetic similarities in engine/ chassis. I am not looking forward to the time when I must take on the decision to update.. I wish there was a way to get BMW to buy the rites back off KTM. My decision would a lot easier to make....

Maybe I could meet in the middle (PAKENHAM) start our own shop and keep these bikes living on. Any way what decision would you have to make if you keep it long enough you can join VMX . There are plenty of old bikes out there and still going strong and better with todays technology.

I don't know... I have this bad habit of updating.... So naturally I am a bit scared of change, I nearly had to have a lobotomy when I decided on the TE511... But I'm all better now... I am allowed to go and play with the big kids now....

I feel your pain there , I do have the same issue's or just like to gather more to add to the collection this time I had to hold myself back and instead of a bike I brought a tractor and for the price I could of brought 3 new bikes, what a fool 3 new bikes now that would of been fun. but I think if i had of come home with 3 bikes I might of had a mmmm don't want think what my missue's would of done oooo just thinking of it makes me quiver.

I am of the belief that the 449/511 is not dead. ...

I was of the same belief that the 250/310 xlite would live on somehow... and then Gasgas announced the good news.
Maybe the Kymco 449 will find its way into a bike thats more available than the CCM Adventure. :excuseme:

Wait for it! CCM have announced on their site that a motard (and maybe an x-country), using the same frame are to be expected

Husky problems from my point of view have been cheaping out on simple shit.

Old models, te450/510 plastic T hoses, crap forks, poor wiring but, at that time, they were still asking top dollar.

What happens is, people find this crap and wonder why they paid so much, husky then suffer as they're easy fixes for DIY blokes.
Wiring, tidy up around head stem etc, fix hoses, fit metal jointd, revalve/machine forks, allow better clearance, fit and finish, take pride in your work, your job is your job, not a right to a job paying money, justify your existence or lose it, tell people when parts aren't up to job, won't last, will let customer down, (what happened eventually) .

A historical bike company ruined in a blink of an eye by not paying due diligence to simple shit......

I could go on for hours but you know the story.....

Well if you want go pay $14000 for a dirt bike and end up with the same problems, that's cool.. my mate has a TE570.. GREAT BIKE. Shit build quality.. back bearings flogg out. Bolt corrosion low quality plastics. Decals pedaling off the side. Fork leaking. Same shit as everyone else

Any of you had valve clearences checked?I've been told by Husky dealer to close the gap on the intake valve from 0.25mm to 0.05-0.1mm.Mine is a MY2013 model and the service book that came with the bike states 0.20-.025mm,has anyone else had this issue ?

This would be the same for all of the manufactures except maybe TM. You can easily find examples from all manufactures on any web forum. Most of the time huskys stuff was easier to fix than the competition though.

BMW never sold the rites to the 449/511 platform to KTM. All of the BMW developed motor machines were kept like the 449/511, 650, & the nuda 900.

My TC Husky Powered BMW G450X will never be for sale. My good spare G450X engine isn't either.

I've thought about using my frame jig I built years ago for building custom Harley frames and picking up a $100 swingarm for the BMW G450X on ebay. I have a stock Ohlins shock and plenty of other spare parts to start scratch building a 1 off, 4130 tube Chromoly frame with the CTS and all but build it into a cross between a Hooligan/Supermoto out of the spare engine just for fun. I have an awesome tube bender with everysize billet steel dies in 2 radiuses for each diameter from 3/4" up to 2". If I don't do that. I'll park em next to my old 77 maico 400 just to look at them.

I'm looking at getting a new bike (FE 501, Beta 498 RR race version) don't know yet. The reality sets in though at the thought of doing this and I have to say, "I don't get to ride enough now". About the only way to get in more riding, is offer to let someone ride my other bikes. I don't think so.

Not for Yamaha and Honda in my limited experience, owned lots of Yamaha and apart from suspension setup, they were bullet proof.

Husky dramas are usually niggling annoyances, simple shit that should have been picked up on.

My main drama even with my 14 is the two part shrouds, great for stripping bark and not much more.
Mine broke within 2klms of it's maiden voyage, just cheap crappy hard plastic.

Love the bikes but stuff like this annoys me no end.

we want to see picture !!!

Spare engines just sitting on the bench right now. I got lots of Drs. bills for awhile. Shoulder surgery last Nov. and a broken wrist almost 2 years ago. I'm riding but not up to speed quite yet. If I start building you guys will be the first to see it coming along. I haven't decided yet. Just a thought at this point.

As kelly mentioned the hondas love to eat valves, so much that aftermarket companies offer complete heads, they wouldn't do it if there wasn't money to be made. I also remember when yamaha came out with there 4 strokes that quite a few companies made stuff like billet kickstart levers because the OEM was good for nothing. They all really do have their problems.
