Personally, I love to get my bikes to the point of being mechanically sound and am not much for looks (still don't have most of the decals on my '85). But you're right, the hum of a 'sold for parts' bike on it's first stable run has a satisfaction that just doesn't come from pulling out of the dealership (that does have its own feeling of satisfaction though).
