March 10, 2009 -- Woodcliff Lake, NJ - The conditions could not have been better for a desert team race last Saturday in Laughlin, NV and they were downright spectacular for team owner/rider Ty Davis. He and his Husqvarna mounted Zip-Ty Racing entered the annual Best In The Desert Racing Association's Laughlin Hare Scrambles and placed each of their Zip-Ty Racing prepped Husqvarna's into the top 5 positions. Davis and co-rider Gary Sutherlin led much of the race and finished first runners-up by a matter of seconds aboard the number N5 Husky TC450.

"The race covered a lot of the historic Laughlin course sections which are a combination of long, rough whoops broken up by single-track," said Davis. "But it wasn't as dusty as in years past and that made it a little bit less treacherous and easier to get the job done. Gary (Sutherlin) and I kept our Husky out front most of the day and only experienced a couple of setbacks. I lost nearly a minute and gave up the lead when a rock jammed the rear brake and forced me stop to sort it out. Gary crashed hard but thankfully it didn't hurt him or tear up our bike." Davis and Sutherlin finished their three loop stint 2nd overall and 2nd in the Open Pro classification.

Finishing behind the Davis and Sutherlin entry by a couple of spots was Kevin Rookstool and Kevin Urquhart displayed their skill aboard the number F15 Husky TC450 with a 4th overall and 2nd in the 4-Stroke Pro category. Immediately behind them on the number N4 Husky TC450 was team regular Nick Burson who split seat-time aboard a TC450 with hired gun Matt Henderson. The pair rode to 5th overall, 3rd Open Pro.

Best in the Desert - Laughlin Results:
    1. D. Pearson / D. Kamo
    2. Ty Davis / Gary Sutherlin Open Pro - HUSQVARNA TC450
    3. M. Crawford / J. O'Donnell
    4. Kevin Rookstool / Kevin Urquhart Open Pro - HUSQVARNA TC450
    5. Nick Burson / Matt Henderson Open Pro - HUSQVARNA TC450

    Once is not enough
As if one race per weekend wasn't already enough Burson and Urquhart "cooled down" from the Laughlin event by entering races closer to home the following day, Sunday March 8. Burson opted for an AMA District 37 desert, which he won, and Urquhart placed 5th in the AMA National Hare Scrambles event at Rynoland near Anza, CA.

    Husky accomplishments
Thanks to the sizable efforts Davis and his Zip-Ty Husqvarna riders have invested in the last 3 months, they rank 2nd overall in the 2009 Best In The Desert Series, 1st overall in the AMA District 37 desert championship, and 1st overall in USDR championship series.

    GNCC Rd-2, Glenn Kearney Update
During the GNCC event last weekend in Georgia, Husqvarna pro Glenn Kearney was forced to retire early after catching his foot in a rut and aggravating his not yet healed broken leg. Miraculously just days earlier, Kearney raced the entire 2009 GNCC series opener in Florida and "John Wayne'd" his way to a 10th overall - a feat any 100% healthy rider would be proud of. There is no official word yet but it's hoped that the tough young Aussie will be back in action in a few weeks.
