I'm trying to find an article referring to an upgrade for husky forks era 1985-87 ? I remember the article had a comparison between the husky forks and ktm forks of the same era ? I think for the husky forks they installed a Husky Products fork kit.

reason for the reference is that I have a set of husky forks that have different (than standard) fork internals - I think ? as I have not seen these before. Perhaps someone can advise what these are ?

    cheers

87 forks were different damping rods from all earlier 40mm's

I have Husky Products damping rods that were in the forks of the 1986 400WR. I found them after stripping down the forks for refinishing. They are necked down (smaller diameter) not straight barrel like the stock damping rods and are made of steel, not aluminum

they are not..just going from your pic you have 85-86 forks, but it does look like different parts inside.

I have the same kit installed in my 83 250XC and I was told they are a Simmons anti-cavitation kit. They also look a lot alike the internals of the Simmons forks. Here are pics of the kit in my 83 250XC. I found the kit in a set of 87 Husky 430XC forks if I remember correctly, I do know for sure they were out of a set of 87 XC forks. I was never able to confirm if they were indeed Simmons or Husky products.

I would have to agree you have the Simons Anti Cavitatation set as the view into the end of the fork tube shows perhaps the predesessor of the Race Tech valve. I have the 1986 Husky Products rods and they are simply steel versions of the stock aluminum rods with refined damping characteristics. Nothing high tech about them.

Those were not stock to the 1987 forks as all the valving is within the damping rods.

Ok problem solved. I found in my misc parts a partial Simons kit and the damper rod is the same design. Thanks everyone for the responses.

What weight of oil and how much oil do the instructions call for? I have been using 7wt and about 10cc less then what the oem xc forks call for. Not sure if that is correct but works very well.

Several here have been running 5wt oil in the late 86 87 style forks. I would not run anything higher than 10wt

Also we played with level are running less volume of oil too.

The instruction in the photo are for a 83-84 Honda kit marty, so for the Honda they call for 2.5-5w fork oil and start testing at 200mm with forks fully compressed - but again this is for a honda jap fork.

Since this thread is titled Husky Products fork kit here is some pictures of the dampening rod and valving from a 1985 XC that I believe to be the HP dampening rods and valve parts. And I think the spring and spacers are part of a Race Tech kit for 190 lbs rider. These should fit 81-86 Husky conventional 40mm forks. They provide 11 1/4" travel. You loose a tad bit of travel due to the top out spring. If I am wrong on any of this info please feel free to correct me. Amazing what you can find in old sets of forks!

I have a ATK branded tri rate spring kit too. Well actually its branded Protec but its the same kit. Not sure if ATK, Protec or someone else actually put them together.
I probbaly have a heap of application lists for Husky fork kits in some catalogues i have. I will dig them out for scanning when i next see them.
