    OK Guy's,

My friend just left me this Husky 250, I'm not a Husky Guru.

More of a Maico \Cz guyl

    But here's what I do know, it's a 6 speed 250, I think it's a 81/82 model with a 17" rear wheel.

At one time the front forks & the silencer were gold. as well as the rims.

I can't find the S/N tag or any stamping other than one on the frame & it's only 7 number & no letters?

It should have 2 letters before the frame number. 80 would be MN, 81/2 would be CN. There should be numbers on the motor too. Not matching the frame. Something like 2079-, 2081- or 2088-. It's a CR frame. For sure it's 80 to 82.

    Disonny,

Thanks for the info, but who ever sand blasted the motor destroyed the motor stamping, also I know that some has a motor tag it's gone.

Frame stamping is very lite I can't find any letters & there are only 7 digits, don't know how many the old Husky's used.

I did find 3 wires coming out of the Motoplat. Blue,Black & yellow. This makes me that it might be a XC? don't know for sure as some one may have changed the Motoplat at one time.

Looks like a 79 with the rear loop cut off to me. If you measure the cylinder stud spacing you may be able to confirm it as the stud spacing in 1980 changed and the studs where spread farther apart compared to 79's. Also the sprocket counter shaft in 79 is smaller diameter and a coarse spline, 1980's change to larger diameter counter shaft and fine spline.

Talked with a friend & he said that it's a 79" with the frame loop cut.

Now I just need a manual or jetting & timing specs, So I can get it running!

    Thanks for all the info!

    Gang,

I’ve got a couple of questions about parts.

Is the air cleaner cage on the 79’ & 80’ CR the same?

I also need to find a kick starter, The only ones I’m finding have the wrong size splines.

Thanks in advance for the help.

BTW: I pulled the cylinder to check the piston, it only has 0.025 clearance, the head was stuck the cylinder with Blue RTV.

Someone had no clue what they were doing!

Yes they are the same. also 81 and 82.

78,79,80, 81 250 kick start levers will fit your bike

The piston to cylinder clearance is good. You may want to lap the head to the cylinder. Someone may have had a problem with a head leak. Also check the length of the two head bolts, I have seen several that bottom out in the bolt holes before they seat the head.

Someone had no clue what they were doing!
    Agreed!

Oops! I had the dismal point in the wrong place,

The piston clearance is 25 thousandths way over what it should be.

I’ve got to order a new piston Monday!

    Gang,

Sorry I’ve been away so long, but the Husky got put on the back burner due to a Major get off that put me in intensive care for 25 days!

I need to know where I can find the proper length for the rear shocks & the total front fork length, looks like the forks have been modified for the desert.

I have a line on a real Husky 250 Cr tank & maybe a set of 40mm forks.

I parked the Husky next to one of my 490 Maico’s & the seat is taller on the Husky by a good bit? I know thats not right!

So far I got a NOS kick starter from 2Premo & had the cylinder bored. Also had Vance Smith fix the Motoplat.

    Hey Gang!

I'm finely well enough to have re-started the rebuild!

I've got the new seals in the bottom end & the new piston installed.

Bottom & refreshed top end in the frame, Boy that was a nightmare, The rear engine mount was sprung!

Still have to put the reed, carb & pipe back on! Then the motoplat installed & timed.

    BTW:

More idiot stuff found, the base gasket was covered in Honda bond #3, so were the clutch & center case gasket's.

All the clutch cover allen bolts are SAE not metric, the 2 head screw also are SAE instead of metric!

Man this thing is a mess:eek:

    Update:

Got a chance to do a little more work today, My friend wanted to paint the pipe.

We did a quick clean up & he sprayed it, I had the silencer in my hand & it felt heavy!

Took a look down the tube & It looked soaked with oil, So we knocked the end cap off. It was full of beer can pop top tabs.

    More Hillbilly engineering.

    That's for sure!

I got it to run for 5 minutes, But now it just won't start!

Ordered a new float needle & seat, as it just dumped gas into the cylinder. Also fixed the leaky petcock!

I should have it running as soon as I get the new float needle & seat, If isn't still over a 100F in my garage:mad:
