    Not sure how many hours.

2 Clutch lines went bad. One had a bad crimp at the banjo fitting, the second had the plastic sheathing get cut somehow on the trail.

Magura clutch failed last spring. Led to the development of our clutch piston, problem solved.

Rear wheel bearings went out down in Baja last November.

A couple valve adjustments every now and then.

    2 sets of fork seals.

    2008 TE 450
    1453 miles.

Valves checked twice. So far no adjustments needed.

Crunched both radiators playing roulette with a downed tree. I lost.

    Change oil every 500
    Change oil filter every 1000
Starter motor stuck on at 600 miles, ruined the starter clutch one way bearing. No problems with that since.
Lefthand radiator cracked in December 08
Righthand radiator cracked in March 2010

Oh yeah, I damaged the left fork slider in a rocky crash (and sanded it smooth when I got home from that ride) and it made that fork seal blow in January, so I replaced the seal and wiper.

    06 TE 450 bought new in 07.
    3700 kilometers (2200 miles).

replaced rear and front sproket and chain at 3000 Kms.
    fork seals at 2500 kms
valves checked 3 times and slight adjustment (shim) last time.
new front disc pads at 2000 Kms.
    new battery at 3000 kms.

    No mechanical issues whatsoever.
I flush the radiator ever 12 months
do the head bearings and rear swing arm bearings every 10 months
change oil-motul 5100 10-50 semi every 3rd ride ie 250-300 kms and oil filter ever seond oil change.
Air filter often after every ride if dusty or max third ride if its been moist ie no dust collected on filter. I prefer the motul air filter oil.
    yearly bleed brakes and clutch
every full tank of fuel at a ratio of 100:1 I put full synthetic two stoke oil. I am 100% convinced this helps top end (valves and top ring), makes the engine smoother.
To be fair I am a ST rider and do not hammer the beast. That said I am 240 pounds so it is working.
The Husky (touch wood) has been 100% reliable and a real joy to own.
Exhaust is stock, I has a B&B bash plate, bark busters, rear brake guard and pipe/leg guard.
I prefer either motoz or Dunlop geomax 51's for rubber and have extra heavy duty tubes. I prefer motul chain lube

Checked valves at around 1000 miles, no adjustment needed
Spark plug died at 1800 miles

runs great! changed oil 3 times, first 2 were back to back to get the rotella out of it that made my clutch slip like hell, i must have got rotella tomato juice by mistake.

and my rear tire is SHOT
  9. '05 TE510

    Around 15,000 miles, about 50/50 desert/woods riding.

Only motor problem (not caused by me) was the nut that has the oil passage to the right side case came loose and wore a groove in the case and ruined the oil seal and case.

Oil (either Motorex 10-60 or Redline 20/50 full syn)and filter changes (Hi-Flo's FWIW) every 200-300 miles.

She still runs like a champ but I'm waiting for the inevitable with that many miles on her. The suspension is pretty much shot though.

    *Anybody want a gently used '05 TE510 with low miles-make offer!

*Stainless valves @ 800mi (Have not moved since)
    *Auto de-comp @ 1800mi
*Piston/rod/main bearings @ 2000mi (Heard a slight rattle/knock at low RPM's so we tore it apart. The parts that were removed looked O.K, but when you are that deep in, might as well go all the way.)
*Linkage/swingarm bearings recently (Take that swingarm off once a season and throw some grease in there!)
*Front wheel bearings every other season

I bought the bike with about 800 miles on it in 2005 for $4000. Spent probably another $1100 on the parts above over the last 5 years. Not bad when you consider the price of a new bike. I would suspect the newer bikes will last even longer.
This has been a great bike and, besides the valves, has never missed a beat. Even the Mikuni still feeds the beast with no hesitations!

    Location:

2008 SM450R 6400 miles. (new to me in June of '08)

    Maintenance
    Oil every 500 (Amsoil 20w50)
Filter every 1000 (Hiflo or K&N)
Valves every 1500 (only had to replace one exhaust shim cause it got out of spec loose)
Air Filter change about twice a year (don't ride a lot of dirt, so it doesn't really get dirty)

    Problems
Tip over switch went (SMR only)
    Couple frame nuts spun
Low fuel sensor soldering job failed
Pulled a helicoil from one of the prefilter bolt holes :banghead:
Seems to go through rear tires awefully fast

    Complete engine rebuilt 3 times.
    Valves rebuilt 4 times
Complete ground up restoration once. Every part replaced with OEM except the seat foam, tank, side panels and frame.

    Baja 1000 once
    Baja 500 twice
    Barstow to Vegas three times
    Parker 200
    AMA Dist 37 Hare & Hounds - 2 seasons
    1000's mi. recreational riding

Despite the low volume of oil carried in this lightweight thumper, it's proven to be a reliable and competent racer. Care and attention must be given with frequent oil changes and maintenance.

Bought used w/200 hours from local dealer. They said it was a demo bike. I still got a 6 month warranty at time of purchase for free.

    Issues after purchase:
Excessive backfiring and stalling off the line.
    Manifold cracked - replacement free
Jetting was a little off - adjusted for free
Needed a shim - installed for free.
Stripped out oil check screw. Turns out it had a helicoil, so someone else stripped it. Tap and die with a bigger screw and good to go.
Clutch safety switch went bad. Got a free replacement, but left it off.
Really, really slow rear tire leak - 1100 miles later and still no need for a tube change.
Snapped off both rear blinkers on different occasions with simple falls - replaced with small aftermarket and moved more under the tail (out of the way)
Almost snapped off the tail after flipping it (wheelie action). Cracked 3/4 of it crosswise right above the taillight - riveted a piece of thin metal on the underside and it's good to go
Snapped the horn bracket - fixed with zip ties.

    Recent issue:
Rear brake seized up doing 40mph on a dirt road with a bike right behind me. LOOK OUT! Turns out I has that brake set just a little too tight. My error made the night prior.

    Currently:
    Hours 80/mileage 1354
Oil change about every 4th or less ride (depending on distance)
Oil filter every other oil change (Hi-Flo).
Castrol Power RS R4 4T Engine Oil 10W/50
    Air filter clean/recharge as needed
Gas tank - keep Stabil in with the fuel every time I park it.

    Want/need to do:
Need to check the valve clearance.
    Need to replace fork oil
    Need to lube rear suspension
    Bleed brakes
    Bleed clutch
    Flush radiator fluid
    Change sprockets and chain
Kind of want to replace wheel bearings. Although probably still good.
Need to buy and install 3.4gal IMS tank
Need to put on new Dunlop D756(front) and D739(rear)

    Wondering about????:
    - Cam chain tensioner - how much life it has left on it????
    - If I should change jetting. Bike was set up for sea level and now I'm @ 5500ft. Plug is blackened, but I guess a fowled plug is better then running lean. Bike still runs great. Probably just not as good of fuel distance @ 5500ft. I made it to 65miles before hitting reserve on the last trek on a trail run (single and dirt road). I watched how much I opened up the throttle.

HAD an 07 510te with over 430hrs. And over 13000 miles. I had to shim the left exhaust shim twice at 150 and 400 hrs, broke kickstarter shaft at 200hrs.,battery died and the bike backfired and snapped the shaft. Replaced the clutch piston after multiple attemps of bleeding the clutch.I replaced the clutch plates evert January. The new 09te 450 has 50 miles on it and I broke a blinker.

'06 610 with a bout 5000 miles on it. mix of dirt and street use. Mostly dirt use early on and mostly street use since I did the SM conversion. So far nothing dramatic to speak of, just a couple of minor electrical problems which might have been self induced.:busted:
I've checked the valves a couple of times and no movement after the initial break-in.
Cam chain adjuster is still at four clicks.
    All is good.

    Bad bits
first wash TE 310 side stickers came off (everything else is In plastic)
100 miles rear shock Sachs) making the graunching noise as listed in another thread..
240 miles rhs 50mm shiver fork seal blown! go figure?
Seat front retainer bolt went AWOL. new one lock tighted no problems so far..
and front instrument timer rev counter does not switch off when wet..

    Good bits.
The engine is getting better and better, will pull third gear from walking pace when would just stall from new.. and is clearly putting out heaps more HP as its gets more used.
Starts on the button or first kick, hot, cold, after a fall, or being laid up..
    LOVE IT
    General.
First valve check one exhaust a little tight.
3 oil & filter changes to date..

the bike is at my local Suspension Guru Dr Shox being sorted and revalved to hopefully get rid of the harshness i am having issues with in the mid stroke cant wait to get it back to go riding!"!!!
