  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey hows it going guys? Im Chris, new member here on this awesome informative forum. After many years of yerning and research I finally bought a new 2014 TE449 from Motoxotica and had it shipped out to Maui. Picked it up for $7000 OTD and it probably needs another $1000 in upgrades. Still Thousands cheaper than a KTM 500EXC. Now to mod it to where I want it to be.
FMF Powercore, Racemap 3, Uptite Skid Plate, Seat Concepts Seat and Cycra Handguards to start. Life is good :)

Yep I hate you:lol: Nice bike for Maui. I was there in June and noticed some pretty awesome single track on the island. Almost did the offroad Maui 2 day ride but it would have been a tough sell since I was with the wife on our 20th... Enjoy the bike:cheers:

I am FB friends with a group called TRU in Oahu and they post cool rides all the time. I sponsored a ride and three of them, came over and rode with me, I provided bikes and tour services free, so I'm in when I head over there.

Here's a dude on ADV who does some pretty cool riding videos out there...I think his name on ADV is Kailani Prince or something like that.

Nice, let me know when you come over. I own Maui Moto Adventures. We do Dual Sport tours and rentals around the island. The Husky is just my personal fun bike though :)

Wow cool, I spoke with you on the phone regarding the moto adventures back in June. I hope to ride with you in the future for sure!

How are you liking the 449 so far?

Honestly its very underpowered, the seat is the worst I have ever rode on, the suspension is harsh and it pukes oil out of the air box (I now run the oil very low on the sight glass) I am comparing it to my dialed in KTM 530 EXC-R. All that being said I realize the bike is bone stock right now and nothing stock is ever any good. My friend here has the same bike with race map 3, FMF power core and the suspension all setup correctly and its awesome! I rode his and that made me buy this bike. So I just need to get it all sorted out and uncorked and im sure it will be great :)

Ummm. So I showed my gf these pictures and your website. She agreed we have to go! That said, I know a klr is decent 2up but she is terrified of "large" bikes. Got anything smaller? Crf250l maybe? Speed limits like 45 there right?

Maui is pretty amazing, and not just for the riding. Have you been before? Yeah I just got a new 2014 CRF250L that would be perfect for you guys in our rental fleet. That is the bike out on a tour in the above picture, fun little cruiser to explore the island with.

All your dirt is black over there? I was on Oahu for a few yrs and it was red dirt over there lots of places..

That looks like the same 250L bike that is sold here ... Is that a 6speed? Is it like a true wide ratio or some close ratios there maybe in 1-3rd gears?

Definitely a step over the xr200s, not that the XRs don't have tons of miles around these islands...

I never really look closely at most dirt bikes except Huskies, but that honda frame is ~sort of screaming Justin Brayton yamaha. Probably just the camera angle :)

Most of the dirt is red here, the black dirt is from the top of the volcano and is finely broken up lava rock cinder. The CRF is a 6 speed wide ratio. Where do you live in the Philippines? I have been there many times and recently rode XR200's all over Northern Luzon on a big adventure.

I just returned from Tacloban as well right after the typhoon working with the United Nation on disaster relief. So sad to see such a beautiful country and people destroyed.

I really want to go to Hawaii now . I was thinking Costa Rica but Hawaii is alot closer . Do you have 2 day off road single track tours?

This blog for the Philippines is about as correct a description as possible ... You are are very good writer and your writings are the default, everyday behavior of this place. You are way over on Luzon, very far from Cebu where I am but it does not matter ... The Philippines is about the same all over, because, you guessed it, the Filipino people are here everywhere and they run this place! :)
Your xr200 riding hit dead-center also ... That's providence riding! ... If no sign or fence, it's open for riding  I'm certainly glad you had a good time here and posted it on the web.

I'll have to go register on that site so that I can add a few comments..

Very tip of Cebu was hit pretty hard but I'm sure nothing like Tacloban, Ormoc, or up the Samar coast.

I'm on Cebu (just north of Cebu City) and been here 4 yrs now ... Its just too cool where I am for pure dirt bike riding. Been on about 10 islands on my bikes via RORO boats also ... All cool places but one was a little too miltant in the south ... All slightly unique but all still 100% the Philippines.

Any more pics on the Luzon area you rode? I've never really been north of Angeles before ... Looking at the land mass of Luzon, it dwarfs Cebu and most all other islands here. How far inland (east) did you go or did you stay down on the coast?

We just do dual sport day tours. Half and Full Day. Costa Rica is great, I spent alot of time riding there all over the country. Much different than Hawaii though. There are some really good deals from the west coast to Maui right now. ~$300 Round Trip! If you want any info on Costa or Hawaii shoot me a PM :)

Oh nooo, he just ruined a perfectly good thread with the "O" word...:busted:

Haha, thats a whole can of worms huh?

I just read your Yolanda ride report, looks like it was not nearly as bad up in Cebu that is good. I have been to almost every major island in the Philippines and they vary so much. I would imagine putting your bike on those little boats inter island is a interesting adventure in itself haha. Im curious on how you got your Husky over there?

We did a full loop of northern luzon on the dirt bike trip sticking to the coast on the west side and then inland to the mountain region of Sagada and down through the middle of the island. I still need to finish that ride report, things got crazy once we hit the mountain region.
