Anyone else getting ready for Ice Racing? Here is a very well done video of our local club. It is the year end review for 2013. Lots of Husky's too! These races take place in Woodland Park, Colorado. Notice the #10 vintage Husky @ 10:41. That is Ryan Middelton and his 1975 CR360 that took the championship. There was only a 1 point difference between 1st and 2nd, so he was talking about doing some porting. I don't think he ever got around to it. Even if you don't like or think much of Ice Racing, this is well worth the time to watch. View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzSKgX2Vr58
I'm no ice racer or a fan of the cold in general but racing is always great. And this type of racing is flat out nutty!! Thanks for posting, other cafe members have posted their ice racing stuff up as well, very cool (literally) thanks for posting!!
Im glad you enjoyed the video robertaccio! I did a search on Ice Racing before I posted this and did not find much. Little bits here and there, but nothing that stuck. It would be great if others put links to there Ice threads here as well. I watched these guys race last year and new I had to be a part of it. I am fully committed now. I pick up the bike (2013 TXC310R) and bits today or tomorrow that I will be racing.
Im starting to get ready, it was 55 degrees here today but the high on Saturday is 24 so were headed that direction. I'd rather it not get that cold but you have to make the best of every situation!
My pro testers were on the ice sunday up in NY on 6" of ice already and I'm selling ice tires like crazy. Our club races every sunday in Jan. in Fallsburg NY, TristateMC. Naturally it was 60 degrees today here.
Every Sunday in January and the 9th of February is the last one. I will not be racing any of my bikes. I will be racing for Big D. A privilege for buying all my Huskys from him, doing what I say I am going to do, and bringing him customers.....not because I'm good. I am extremely grateful and will do the best I can do. It is -4 here now and was up to a whole 12 F earlier today. There was hardly any ice last week, but now things should be good. We will be in negatives for a week straight...all through the nights anyway. Who's tires do you sell? I have heard that the success rate of studding your own tires is very low and it's very difficult to get right...Does anyone here have good luck building their own tire? Fantastic! Keep us up to date!
Rob, You owe it to yourself to get a ride on an ice bike. It seems crazy, but you'll never feel more traction! I had a '89 RM250 all DTX'd, that I rode on the ice. I sold it to start snowmobiling. The WXC350, will probably become an ice bike, at some point... It's too much fun!
That's so cool! I bet your 250 is for sale when you ride that 310 . Good luck, I can't wait to see you out there!
Thanks!! I think that is what everyone thought when I got the 511. I love, love, love my little 2fiddy! Don't think I would ever get rid of it. I think the Buell may have to go though. Already been talking about it with the little wifey. Buell out, 2013 TXC310R in! We used the Buell 2 up when she didn't ride. She loves riding her bike too much now to ever be a passenger again. Buell is kind of neglected now. See you on the ice!!!
yup getting ready for the ice to. most lakes around here are getting frozen over still open in the middle. hopeing to get out by christmas.
[...Does anyone here have good luck building their own tire? ive made a couple but they dont hook up like pro built ones. Ive used fredette's and strange's but like the fredettes the most
Ive done some fun riding on the ice among some good dirt trackers. This one little guy, Chris Carr, rode with us a few times. I dont claim to be a friend of his or anything but he seems like a real cool dude. I am pondering studding up a set of extra tires i have for some ice riding with the WR. Last time I was on the ice I was running an old @ss 1975 DT250. That was a blast!
I build and sell professional AMA legal ice tires and have quite a few #1 Plates myself as well as my buddies. Don't bother trying to build your own ice tires as it took me about a lifetime to figure it out. I do it out of the love for the sport and I doubt I've ever made a dime doing it. Love seeing my buddies win on my tires. The last set I sold the customer said, "This looks pretty easy to do, I saw it on U Tube." I just smiled and took the money. Right now I'm known for a damn good front ice tire and just had a very fast pro agree to race my tire after sundays testing. We plan on heading to the Cold Cutter Shootout this winter.
I power washed some off if I remember right, I keep meaning to go up there and peel them off the 449 too lol. Take it out on your trail quick before doing all of this. I'm telling you, it's fast I have to say though, I'm partial to there 12 310 because that's the bike I did my first race ever on lol Edit: Are you able to go over where the races are and practice or is it closed off?
Couldn't take it for a ride. Roads here are ice packed and..... It's -2 F outside! But it is a nice and toasty 67 in the shop.. Ryan is taking me to the private practice track to get some practice in. First practice is next week, but I don't know if I can swing it. Might piss off the little wifey if I cancel our vacation to practice. Awesome advise and I remember hearing that last year. We are doing it right! Got off all the bits that need modified. Added a coolant catch can and removed the front brake assemble, both per regulations. Usually I set my tires in the sun to make them nice and pliable. Not an option today. Had to set them by the wood stove. First one went on real nice after that. My wife is working tonight, so I am on my own for dinner and heating up some spaghetti. The stove is coming in super handy tonight.. So far I am really enjoying Ice racing!
Well lookie what I found! Steve Kanya kickin it on the ice! View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEb3UMstGpg
