  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Flywheel Weights Besides Steahly?

After doing a little looking around, it seems that the only FWW available for the WR250 is the Steahly 10oz. Eric would like to have something a little lighter, maybe an 8oz or even a 6oz. We used to run those on our Honda CR's. Are there any other companies that make FWW's for the Huskys? We've got a 10oz on order but would like a lighter option as well.

Thanks!

WoodsChick,

Check with Jeff @ Hall's Cycles. I put a flywheel weight on my CR125 and the weight made for GasGas bikes. It crosses over and works just fine. On my 125, I had to get a spacer made for the cover but I'm not sure if this was a bike specific issue. If the thread size on the 125 and 250's are the same, the GasGas weight could be a option for you. Hall's had these in both 7oz and 10oz.

Excellent info, MattR! Much appreciated

So Woodsie Eric really wants a 4 stroke Huh?

No, he doesn't

If he was trying to turn it into a 4-stroke he'd gladly take the 10oz FWW and be done with it, Mr. Smarty Pants

He wants it to be as tractable as his GG250 and GG300 and, quite frankly, that's going to take a little bit of work. The RB Designs carb mod was a huge step in the right direction

Question about FWW - they increase bottom end tractibility without hurting high rpm rush?
Ive got a 07 TC250 that when in real tight (1st gear trails) stuff requires lots of clutching or i stall - would that make a difference?
The flywheel in it is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter - real small compared to the 450 flywheel.
Id love to improve the tractibity of my bike (borrowed my friends KTM SXF 250 - and it felt like a tractor but lacked the top end rush of my husky)

I think Steahly will lathe their flywheels for a few bucks, so you may be able to buy a lightened 10oz direct from them.

I'm sure a FWW would make a difference, but you might want to start with different gearing instead.

Good idea! We've got a 10oz Stealhy on the way. We'll look into that if it's too much, since it's probably cheaper than getting another FWW altogether.

That is the reason why I put one on my CR125. The weight adds just enough inertia to help prevent stalling and allow you to chug down lower with less clutch work. The CR & TC flywheels are still small enough that you will not notice any higher rpm/rev downsides. In other words, as you build revs through the midrange and up, the little flywheel will still spin up quickly like it had no weight attached. You will only notice the added weight when the flywheel is spinning slowly (when you actually want it). Hope this makes sense.

Makes sense...
Now then, they dont list one for a TC - would a TE flywheel be comparible?
As for gearing - im running a 12-52 - i cant seem to find an 11T front (thats pretty small).
Would a FWW for a CR fit onto a TC rotor? How do they attach anyways?

They are a boon for old YZ yammy 4 bangers that are onsent for trail rides rather than MX. Makes them really tractable. The extra weight marginally slows spool up time and reduces top rpm's but that is not a negative for trail riding.
I would not try for an 11 tooth front cog, makes the chain change direction too quickly and will cause it to wear much quicker than normal.

On mine, you remove the original nut and spin the weight onto the shaft. The weight has a hex head built-in so that you can tighten it like a nut.

No, he doesn't :p If he was trying to turn it into a 4-stroke he'd gladly take the 10oz FWW and be done with it, Mr. Smarty Pants :D

Was the RB work done to a Mikuni? And how does he like it?

So...he likes the 250 GG? I'm really thinking about the 2012 GG250 myself and if I do I'm going all out with the e-start version.

Anyone have a FWW on their WR144/165? Just curious as to any opinions. I have a lot of dialing in to do with the parts I already have and really dont need another variable. But I am always looking to tinker while Im tirelessly working to empty the keg
