I've got some exhausts I was hoping to confirm before sending them in for repair/restoration.

First one came with my '85 400 WRX. It needs some serious repair (if it can be repaired).

To me it looks like an XC Exhaust, is that the one they had on the WRX?

Second one came with my 1986 CR250. The ring on the front of it is too big for the CR250 (but also looks too big for the pipe), so I'm thinking this is a P.O. special.

Exhaust 3 is a mystery special. I bought it a while back thinking it might work on my 1986 WR400, but it is nowhere close.

Might be for sale if someone knows what it is and wants it.

Number 3 is an air cooled exhaust (81-84).
You have a part number near where the springs are attached.

Michael Dufayard, I took a good look and didn't find a part number, is it painted or stamped? The metal is still good on the pipe, but the paint is fairly well rusted right around the spring area. I tried cleaning it up with a wire brush and no stamped numbers came to the surface.

sometime they had a little piece of metal spot welded on, this had a part number. sometimes they do not. the majority of my pipes have no number and are tough to identify because of that..

First pipe is like mine on my other 86 400 XC motor, not a stock pipe though. Its an aftermarket pipe, not sure who made them it has no name on it also

This would explain the small flecks of steel/weld that I did find that were a little too regular to be random, but a little to far from any of the seams to make sense. Apparently the part number tags can be knocked off (and have been for four out of four pipes I own).

I can definitely recognize the tube shape in your picture. The expansion chamber seems nearly identical to my '86 400 WR with the added 90 degree bend which extends the leading section. Seems like this could lead to a lower, longer, weaker power band. Given how hard my 86 hits on the pipe, this might not be all bad. How does it ride, should I try to restore it or drop it and go for one of the newer replacement options? And another thing, does yours have to be shoe-horned on and fit rather poorly, or is that just because this one is banged up?

the 430 and 400 pipes are the same on all liquid cooled bikes save for the top mounting tab, the WR used a shell around the expansion chamber to cut pipe noise View attachment 59183
that pipe is a bit tough, are you pretty good with welding??
realistically replacing it wit an UpTite pipe from George is your best bet, but not sure how much you were planning to spend
i have a few pipes laying around, better shape than yours if you want to go that route, if so PM me

V - not really shopping on the 250 right now (it's a little way back in the project queue), just looking to confirm that the pipe is right, with the wrong ring welded onto the leading end. Looking at your pictures, I feel safe to say it is. The 250 pipe is actually in fairly good condition, so I'm leaning more towards 'repair' than 'replace' with that pipe.

Welding is not my top skill. I've got this friend, he has a cousin, who has a guy.... Long story short, you may get a PM on a pipe or two, I do have a few other options and projects to go through first.

the first pipe with the long header section. is a HP (Husky Products) pipe right out of the HP catalog. not sure about the 2nd pic. 3rd is air cooled 430.

The 1986 430 Auto pipe was setup for much stronger mid range to help the auto shifting. That would have a longer and perhaps stouter head pipe

as far as i know the same pipe was used on all 430 and 400 LC models, save for the noise shields on the WR
pipes are built off stroke in the Husky world
but in the aftermarket i could see the argument for this

    there could be small differences
i have 2 pipes for the 87-88 250, one is cr and the other is xc, same stroke, but much different diverging cones. the xc stinger is about 2 inches long with looong cone. the cr has short cone with longer stinger.

that's a different animal as it has a power valve, but point taken;)
