  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Engine casing options?

As much as I love my bike i cannot find any damn information! I own a 2010 SM510r and six months ago i blew a case. George at Up-tite Husqvarna said i need to get those exact cases to make anything work but i have another mechanic saying a can use older cases. Does anyone know or have been through this before? I believe George is a good guy but he's not really feeling the pain with my bike being down the way I am and he isn't really pounding the pavement trying to get it going again. If i have to end up buying a full te510 motor and pulling just the cases off then fine, if i can get a 04 set of cases to work then great. Please someone help me figure this shit out.

I don't know your answer, but I have seen other times when the 2010 differed from all other years. I would trust George on this and I would be looking to buy a motor or bike from '08 - '10 that needed a topend job or maybe it was wrecked. Then I would part out the top end of my existing motor, and the other useable parts off the bike I bought, and use the motor in the donor bike as my motor.

I know when I needed the left side for my 09 TE510 that's what part was used , the 1 called for in the parts fiche . Sorry to hear about the bike. :(

The shop you speak of has a very good reputation with husqvarna. There could be subtle differences in model years as in bearing bore diameter or extra casting for dowels for alignment, FI parts attachments, etc...
You could always look for a complete engine regardless of year and bolt that in if that's not sufficient.

I've found a 2010 510te motor that is complete and runs but when i called george at up-tite he just says you don't want the motor because it's been beat up. I was trying to explain to him if i just buy the damn thing and use the bottom end and throw the rest away it would still be cheaper and he just said the te's are a 5 speed and the smr's are a 6 speed. So he doesn't quite get that i don't want to spend 3 grand for a pair of cases. Somewhere i saw someone claimed you could 6 speed gears into a 5speed case (someone on ebay was selling the gears and said you could so take that for what it is worth), so I'm ok with that if i can ride the f**kin thing.

You should be able to use 2006-2010 450/510 cases.

So you are guaranteeing that a 2006 set of cases will fit all the rest of the hardware from a 2010 motor, tranny, top end, everything. Are the part numbers the same? If not, have you seen a repair like this or done one?

The parts diagrams show different part numbers for TE vs SMR bottom ends. Looks like there's an additional bearing in the SMR case:

Might still be able to make a hybrid. I did that with part TE410 and part TE400 several years ago.

I am putting a set of 2008 cases on a 2006 right now.
