• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm putting some husqvarna bikes together and want them to be color, size and correct to the year, model. When I post pics here I want them politically correct.

I wish we had a sticky here on the colors of gas tanks, the year and the model application.????

I was trying to find a useable petcock a couple of weeks ago. I have steel tanks, aluminum tanks and plastic tanks. You might get the wrong material that would be more politically incorrect than the wrong color. The small aluminum alloy tanks with the filler on one side look good with no paint in my opinion. There wasn't a useable petcock on any metal tanks, there is a disc with four holes, I ended up buying a punch and a neoprene giant washer and making one. Not sure how it will hold up but the more stuff you have the more stuff you have to maintain.

The 1972 suzuki ts-185 peacock rubber can be forced into the husqvarna peacock then you turn the lever/flat valve to lap / wear it into the rubber for a full seal. The rubber will be completely shiney so it will seal. Install the snap ring. The lever will be snug but it works. On the 70' to '83 pedcocks.

I posted this on the husky club news letter.

Also had leaking petcock , found a rubber piece for a Honda . Think it was a 350 , od was correct and fuel holes same diameter . Don't remember year or model but has been good for 3 plus years . Was a little thicker but a few minutes with some wet and dry solved that problem . As for tank colors vs model check the brochures in the tech reference .doesn't have them all but it's a start . Almost forgot , petcock was on an 81 tank .

One of the petcocks didn't have the snap ring but two screws. It would have been a battle if I had to use one of the snap ring ones. The one I used had the a nice tall good condition screen.

My point was if you go back to 70's you are getting into steel tanks. I think the 360 auto had what I would call a large green steel one.

Both my 78's have the large steel one. original black on the 390WR and the Auto has the same large tank, that too is black.

I have a '80/'81 cr frame (250cr) red small tank? a '82 cr frame 430cr black tank or red?
A 81 420cr black tank or red? 84 430wr milk truck. Do I have the painted tanks correct for that era?

I'm working on more project bikes too.

The XC was black with gold pin stripes in 82, the 430CR was a darker red with gold pin stripes than the 82 250CR which had white pin stripes. The 81 XC was blue with white pin stripes, the 82 WRs were dark blue with gold pin stripes, the 82 125CR was metallic blue with gold stripes. There are a lot more colors than the ones I listed, those are just the ones off the top of my head.

81 250 or 430 large red tank with white lettering and stripe . 81 was 1st year of this tank .

The 82 430CR had the maroon tank that is shaped like the other 82 tanks that are distinctively different shape than the earlier WR and CR tanks
