Difference between 1981-83 engine?

    1980 CR390 1978 OR250 1983 250 1970
    Other Motorcycles:
    BSA,Triumph,Yamaha,Moto Guzzi,ATK
    Can anyone here describe the differences between a 1981 250CR #2079 engine(one year only), and the 1982-83 250CR #2088 engine? Identical on the outside, but internally? Thanks

    They are totally different, inside and out. '81 was the last year of the old cases with non-primary kick and '82 was the first year of the new primary kick engine.

    do you have any pics? if these are engines you have the years could be incorrect. as KW stated, they are two different animals. shouldnt really be anything looking similar between the two..

    Not to hijack the thread but I'm rebuilding a 79 CR 250 and have a line on an 81 2079 donor/parts engine..it that workable?

    yes that will work ... as above not until 82 did the production 250's get the small " carla cases from his 1979 championship winning bike !
