I'm looking for the type with a metal backbone. I have tried the Tusk D-Flex, which I've enjoyed on previous bikes, but they interfere with the clutch and brake lines too much on my Husky. Anybody have suggestions? I rely on them to save my levers as well as my hands, so the stouter, the better.

I use cycra probend hand gaurds.

I have stock bars with 1" cut off each side. Fits well.

    Whoa. Those are priced well.

I checked out the latest Tusk models and reviews to see if others have had the same issue. Since I ordered mine in June, tusk improved the mount bracket a bit. The original one did not have a bend/ cutout. The new ones do. That seems to be the key. I also have to bend the Tusk brace for it to align properly, but the upside is that the brace is very strong.

I tried a pair of these from eBay. I must say, they are pretty nice. They solved all the routing issues I was having and they are pretty stout. They were $25 shipped to my door from China. Crazy. They also came with all necessary hardware, which is not true of many of the expensive guards.

The manufacturer did cut some corners, however. The aluminum I cast, not machined. Also, plastic is held on with a t nut and screw rather than a machines/tapped thread. Not a big deal. Thanks for the tip, Trenchcoat!

yeah- they're great. Fit good and strong. I've tested mine plenty in the last 1-1/2 years. They work with hydraulic clutch lever too. I must say it's the first pair of hand guards that I have NOT had to bend/file/force to mount. bolt-on. And the plastic seems to be high quality too.

I think they're bar aluminum pressed/bent to shape.

but not to be a contrarian (too much): the steel threaded insert is a pretty standard technique on aluminum; stronger too. I think the fit and finish are excellent.
