  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Dead starting a WR300..Nothing to it

So I spent about 30 minutes today doing dead start hole shots on my 13' WR300. The bike has the original Carb jetted by Halls as part of the set up of this bike. I'm 5'-10" 215lbs and one kick start this thing IN GEAR every time! I thought after reading some of the other threads it was going to be tough but it turns out nothing to it!

Step1- warm up bike
Step2- put bike in gear
Step3- rock bike back and forth with clutch pulled in to allow clutch to disengage
Step4- kick slow to get to top dead center then by hand push 1/8 kick past TDC
Step5- allow kicker to go back up put foot on it and kick
Step6- Hang on to your socks

I did this every time I started it and began to get a feel for the kicker and eventually didn't need to push kicker with my hand anymore. Every time it started in gear and ripped!!

Out of curiosity, do you know what jets Hall's put in it when they rejetted it?

I'm not running the TMX anymore, I like the power delivery of the PWK better, but I am always curious. :)

Not 100% sure what jets they used but they made it seem like no big deal just something they do during set up?? He did say when it gets hotter out (90deg+) I may want to lean it out a bit.

Since putting the Lectron on my 250 and getting it set right it will start 1st kick almost no matter how you do it. Sometimes I do a weak effort half kick just to see what it'll do and it still starts 1st kick. If you end up buying a Lectron for your 250 or 300 make sure to get a 38mm.

I was betting on the 38mm being the ticket and it seems it is! Good Info! I assume you have had the same experience as others, in that it has better mileage and smoother power and obviously better starts?

Yes, better mileage especially on tight single track and better everywhere with no lean or rich spots. It's by far one of the best mods for the money.

Cool, well I will have the Rekluse 2.0 and 10oz flywheel weight on Friday so I'll have to give those a try and then maybe the Lectron?? This bike should ride like a four stroke and be light all at the same time!!!
