  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

db killer part number?

I've searched, I swear! My Husky dealer parts girl can't seem to find this "db killer" for my '09 TE510. Would anyone happen to have the P/N so I can try to embarrass her.......again.

Thanks!

Found this

I looked in the '09 TE310 Parts Catalog and discovered that there is an alternate exhaust diffuser shown (see page 133, part 11, 8000H0827 - Noise reduction device). I called Jeff at Hall's Cycles to see what he could do; Jeff called the alternate part the "db Killer" and said that it was available from Husky (about $63).

Don't order the Part number 8000B1546 which is labeled "Noise Reduction" It is equivalent to the spark arrestor in sound- but has no screen. It does have about an inch of tube that goes into the silencer (same ID as the spark arrestor)- but it is not effective at decreasing db compared to the stock Spark arrestor.
I have that one- and intended to bring my bike from 99.9 db with spark arrestor in to under 96- but this part won't do that- I wanted what Rick Ramsey has here
The parts fiche is kinda confusing on this issue- who would have thought there was multiple Db Killers 1 that works and 1 that doesn't do much beside inspire modification. I kept putting Ricks part number in Halls online parts# search and it didn't come up-which is partially why I got this one- call them I guess.
I spose compared to NO insert it is a db killer intended for closed circuit or something... MX or SM
mine was $50- should have returned it - but the dealer wasn't real motivated so I will weld on some more tube and trim it until I hit 95db-I will live.

just finished mounting up the DB killer insert and will be having it tested this weekend at our local enduro,it sounds much quieter and now the motor makes more noise than the exhaust! not suure what the stock exhaust on the txc250 pushes out,but I dont think it was loud to begin with, but this club is very strict and I probably will change it out before key time!

My stock TXC250 registered 95.7db at 5200 rpm with the spark arrester removed. I put the spark arrestor back in for the next organized ride, but they weren't sound testing that day so I can't say what difference it makes.

just a follow up my bike tested out at 86 DB at 4500 rpms!! sounds like a sewing machine at idle!!

Awesome! I will eventually get one. My bike sounds like a tractor compared to my friends ktm 530. His bike purrs

Did the bike run different from the restriction? is there still a spark arrestor?

no spark arrestor, but mine is modified and bent at a 45 degree angle to fit in the pipe, even if you stick something in there it hits the bend and wont go any further,I didnt try the bike out on the trails yet, just used it to get by the test, still not sure if my stock pipe will pass or not, because they dont have the manufacturer listed to tell them what RPM to use for the test, guess I pass no matter what!
