The 86 510 has a Dellorto on it but it's worn and contributing to difficult starting and poor idling. Who has upgraded their carb on an air cooled 510? The Keihen FCr is a bit much for my wallet.

Theres a million blown up 250 and 450f bikes these days . Get any size fcr you want complete with cables and grip assembly for 50 bucks . Jet it to suit ?

Good idea. The question is where to start with jetting.

Found a Keihin FCR with hot start button and accell pump. It includes the cables and throttle grip. Beginning to get the hang of starting the beast. The Dellorto is so worn you can't adjust the idle. Fuel screw doesn't make a difference either. Slide is very worn.
Started it up anyways and she's got plenty of power everywhere. I like it!

I got my first 510TE in 1984. Couldn't ride it for 2 days because it wouldn't start at all. Switched the dell-orto for 38 mm Mikuni with proper jetting and after that I could start it with my bare foot. The idle system on the dell-orto was not good for this type of engine. Since 1972 I used Mikuni's on my Husqvarna's and tuned many 2 stroke and 4 stroke with them. Im not saying the Keihin is less but it was a lot easier to get parts for Mikuni's than for the Keihins. Best regards, Maarten.

Hello Maarten, good to know. I went with the FCR because they seemed to work well on many four strokes. A hot start button is a wonderful thing. I have a Yamaha TT500 I would like a better carburetor on.
    Best regards, Huskys rule! Pete
