• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

CafeHusky World Headquarters Gets A Trail!

Last weekend Eric and I met up with our buddy Dan (Manic) out at CH's World Headquarters near Napa. Our hosts Dean (Coffee) and Mark wanted to get some trails built on the property and we were all too willing to help. Hey, it's tough work riding virgin territory and looking for trail opportunities but, hey, someone's gotta do it...

We met up with Coffee on his TR650 and Mark on Coffee's TE250. Dan and Eric were on their Huskys and I was on my tiny GasGas...the perfect vehicle for scouting and and cross-countrying...riding where there are no trails. Did I mention it was a simply stellar day?

We talked about what Mark and Dean wanted, then we rode around the perimeter...well, as best we could with no available trails...and kind of got a feel for the land. We discussed routes, possibilities, and our good fortune to be doing this kind of stuff on fantastically beautiful land with the blessing of a friendly land owner, all under crisp blue skies...

More on the way...

I can't tell you how much fun it was to go exploring and poking around looking for stuff! We ran into a lot of deadfall and thick brush and trees and stuff, but we found what could be a cool loop if only we could make it through.

I'm losing my wi-fi. More later if I can!

in my dreams! 'n coffe-dood got the twin-piper dirty too!
Sort of? I ride it on the easier stuff... While they were ''bustin trails' (a term which seemed to get WoodsChick's attention) I was cooking lunch.

A significant amount of time was simply explaining where the property lines are, and how the place is laid out - definitely a bit confusing.

when is the next one???
Depends on several things, especially the weather. It is possible March 10th but cannot commit to that.

wowo .. That is really a cool looking area ... Is that spanish moss on the trees (pics 2&3)?

Make a perimeter trail just to keep an eye on your property ... Then maybe make a small MX type track on the un-even terrain (Pic 2 & 3 again) ... Add a creek trail maybe if not too difficult and then , use all that other terrain and combine all this into something big :) ..

Maybe make a trail head with some low-cost overhead shelter for the Husky riff-raff and other yahoos to drift in and out of ... :0)

Good luck here and I'm sure you are gonna draw a big crowd of riders there before you know it ...

Yes, spanish moss. Lots of it.
I've thought of some type of mx riding, but I lack the skill set. Someone else could do it if they wanted.

Pics #6&7 show one part of the perimeter, which is a bit steep.

Interesting idea for a trail head shelter...

Some type of that moss is all over the deep south in some places like bayous ... I have not saw much of it in decades or since I left there.... I'll pay more attention here as I think I have saw a few small patches scattered around ... The Spanish were here once and should have left some seed ...

--
Put up a shelter and they will come and maybe stay ... After 5 days, charge them rent ... :)

---
Yep, I saw that big downhill \ uphill ... Needs to be in the track with a big step-up 1\2 way up to log some air and these type jumps are safe and always look cool... You have the natural terrain for something very cool and safe at the same time ...

---

I'm on record saying if I get a Trail Head, it should be named something like CH HQ PHIL, if it happens in a couple yrs ... Not that I'm trying to move in on ya ... It'll just be an honorary type thing pointing to the Big Daddy CafeHusky World Headquarters in CA USA .... just in case some Husky guys or girls come by ...

Absolutely beautiful place you have there Coffee! We are running the annual Numb Bum where traditionally it's -20 to -30's Celsius. Except spring has decided to tease us these past 3 days. Thanks again for the pictures Woodschick.

but what setting eh? 'n if yer cooking is as good as your taste in mc's, put me down for seconds! :p

My bacon cheeseburger was grilled to perfection

Ok, I'm back from my 4-day riding trip and have good wi-fi at home so I can post...what else? More photos!

So, we knew the area down by the creek had a lot of potential, but we just couldn't make it through...
file_zpsd6de3750.jpg

Earlier we'd been at the top of the creek but couldn't see a way down. We decided to go back to where Mark and Dean were waiting and see if we couldn't round up some tools for clearing the trail. We found them waiting at the top of the hill along with Mark's son and amazing tree-climbing dogs...

Coolest tree ever!
file_zps10404611.jpg

So it was decided that Eric and Mark would gather some implements of destruction and start at the top while Dan and I would ride back down to the bottom, go up the creek as far as we could and see if we couldn't meet up somewhere in the middle. Eric comes through! By the way, you don't see any poison oak in this photo, do you? Eric didn't either...

More in a few (this "10 photos per post" is seriously cramping my style!)

The trail looks good but there's a rock that keeps kicking the rear ends out and threatening to send us off the edge and down the ravine...

Mark says "My work here is done..." Heh...for now!
file_zpsffbc26d7.jpg

We rode the trail a time or two, then headed up the hill. We arrived to find a feast of grilled burgers and all the fixin's. We ate and talked and laughed for what seemed like a few hours. Our day was done. It was lots of fun with some work thrown in, and I'm looking forward to doing it again soon! Thanks, Dean! And a huge thanks to Mark, too!

That would have been a real hoot, what very pretty country side.
