  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Best pipe for 2014 CR144

B Class
Hey guys wanted to say hi for the first time and get some input on best pipe for the 2014 CR144. Picked up my bike last week at Hall's, got it home and tore it down, sent 144 top end and suspension to Pro Circuit. Went with the full high compression race motor package (C12 gas) and revalve and new springs. I race the Amateur Nationals (+30 B class) and need every advantage i an get racing against the 4 strokes. What is the best pipe and silencer combo on these bikes, i have no experience as this is my first Husky (YZ rider for 20 years). I look forward to hear all your suggestions.
Thanks
Bubby

Thanks for the input, budget is no concern, Pro Circuit recommends their pipe a silencer (of course), Scalvini is a good looking pipe, I here both are mid to top pipes witch is ok for motocross, but i also race Arena Cross. Has anyone ran the Scalvini and went one tooth less on the counter shaft sprocket? That should wake the low to mid up a little, but how low to mid do you actually lose with the Scalvini?

All the reading ive done points to dep or pro circuit for mx. Much better choices for woods but for moto those seem to be the best choices.

  1. Yeah i ran the DEP144 Torque pipe on my YZ144. I'm interested in the Scalvini, but cant seem to find a lot of reviews and testing on them, seems things i have read have it as strictly mid top pipe. I'm looking to boost the entire rpm range if possible.

i m no expert but being a euro built bike i would think that the euro pipe makers would have more experience with the husky the US starting gates aren't exactly full of them

That was my plan and they told me they had them in stock when i sent my motor and suspension out, but they are out of stock and waited to tell me on the phone after they already started my motor work that they don't have any and have no idea when they will have more made. They said it could be months before they see one, and their is a waiting list, normally i would just wait but i know the stock pipe does not work well with the 144 motor mods done by Pro Circuit , being i have 2 A rider friends that have the exact same set up with Pro Circuit. That is why i am seeking other options, and input from the Cafe Husky faithful.

I was in the same mode a couple of months ago and discovered the DEP no longer makes a 125/144 pipe - I bought the Scalvini and the thing looks absolutely amazing. In addition to the awesome performance, everyone on the line will think you're sponsored by a factory - the thing is truly a work of art.

Thanks for the link. Pro Circuit has some of the worst customer service i have ever delt with, started my suspension and motor work without even calling me even though i put "please call" on the form, and when i finally got to talk with someone they acted like i was some dumb ass that didn't know what he wanted. But they do some of the best work, they told me their getting 42hp out of the Husky 144 with their set up.

Has anyone used both the PC pipe and Scalvini by any chance? If so what differences did you notice if any at all?

that link is to a standard 125 pipe so not sure if that's the pipe they use for a 144 . If you say they are tuning the pipe to a particular cylinder porting for a 144 then id say there may be other pro circuit pipes
I had a pro circuit a long time ago and didn't really notice much difference to stock .
FWIW A user on here got 42hp with a Wallybean 144 and a scalvini

Yeah i noticed that, i actually messaged the ebay guy and he had no idea if it was the same pipe for the 144, not a good sign.
Any more input on a difference between Pro Circuit and Scalvini? I'm guessing since they are both mid top that the mid top porting i am having Pro Circuit do will work for both

I can tell you that on my 11 144, the FMF pipe was better everywhere, and made a huge difference on the bottom, where I found the bike to be lacking. I'm not a big fan of FMF customer service, or quality control, but the pipe did exactly what I wanted. If I bought another CR, the first thing I'd do is order that pipe again. We have a local guy who's been working on these bikes for a long time, and he recommended the FMF over the others.
Since budget is of no concern, get two pipes, and sell the one you don't like.
