• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Beefier Rear Rack Replacement Options...

What commercially available options are there for a beefier mount than the stock rear rack?

Specifically: a rear rack the does not use, or attach to, the plastic rack that comes with the TR650s.

Option 1 - OEM from Husqvarna, which I do not believe anyone has obtained yet, this information came from a file called "my13Husq_aftersales.pdf" on Husqvarna-motorcyclesNA site:

Husqvarna PN: 85396Ø2 - Givi TRK46N (20.7” x 16.1” x 12.2” external(?) dimensions) and Husqvarna OEM rack.

Or to get a beefier rear rack that seems to be available with the panniers.

Or the beefier rear rack seems to be available with the"Weekender" kit.

Or the Beefier rear rack seems to be available for the "Commuter" kit.

Another picture I found someone put up of the OEM beefier rear rack:

And for completeness, this is from a document of Givi usa site called Givi_usa_Accessories_Catalogue_ 2013.pdf:

I believe several people mentioned someone named 'Berg' (Berg Briggs?) that was working on a beefier rear rack - any status reports on that? Where could that be purchased when it is available?

Anyone know of any other companies working on a beefier mount?

Anyone actually gotten an OEM Beefier rear rack?

I spoke to Berg today and he said that he had a rear rack in development. After installing his side racks I am looking forward to the rear rack.

There about 4 weeks out. I suspect it's made of metal. Based on other HB product I've seen, it's likely beefier than the stock rack by a bunch.
I have absolutely no doubt that will be much beefier than the stock plastic rack - but from what I can tell, the part of the rack supporting weight is cantilevered, just like the stock plastic rack i.e. unsupported.

I love pictures of the underside of the mufflers. The main bolt that holds the mufflers on - does it connect to the sub-frame?

I've got the Givi Monokey side and top bags but am still waiting on the mounting hardware from SW-Motech along with a centerstand. They've promised shipment sometime this month. The Givi equipment appears to be very nicely crafted but I am not so sure how valuable the top opening (when mounted) will be in the greater scheme of things. The larger top case will definitely hold a full-sized modular (flip-up) helmet but not two (at least in my head size :-). Now, to see how crafty those Germans are in making proper mounting hardware...

I am finishing up a really simple rack that bolts on above the the BRMoto side racks. I am just using a 1/4" MDF plate covered in one layer of 11oz fiberglass cloth on each side, bolted in place with enough spacers to clear the rear plastic. Total price in materials is about $10. It is plenty stiff and should be adequately rugged for small loads, although I wouldn't put a 30lb top case on it. I will post up some pictures once it is finished.

Anything attaching to the subframe won't be able to support more than somewhere between 12 and 20lbs.
