Am I stupid? Should I just buy the right bike?
I am thinking about using my SM450R for the Baja 4000. I think I can get a Safair Tank that will extend my distance but I'm not sure about the shorter swing arm and stiffer suspension? Has anyone been able to put regular dirt/dual sport tires on an SMR or is there not enough room.
Just trying to flesh out the idea and not go to the trouble/expense of adding one more bike to the fleet! Can you guys let me know your thoughts....should I just buy another bike or can I get the right parts to make my bike work?
I would love your input and ideas.
    Thanks!

    I tried my SM610 ( i know it's different from the 450/510 models )
I put some DS tires on it and took it on and ADV weekend trip.
Looks of gravel to rocky broken up two track stuff.
The suspension beat the hell out of me. even on the softest settings.
    FWIW.

I ran a 2007 smr510 at a local dual sport way back when. I bolted up a 21" front wheel and ran a 17" adventure tire on the rear. Lack of suspension was noticable. I used the sm front rotor. talk about 1 finger braking. It was a 300 mile event. For 4000 miles? I wouldn't

starting to lean toward your basic XR650R tank. They are super cheap and I don't have to sell my SMR to make it happen:)
