  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Air Cooled, Twin Shock for MX

Husqvarna
AA Class
What's the best year and model air cooled, twin shock Husky for MX? Are they competitive with the 80/81 YZ 250's? Engine cc does not matter in my area.

engine size doesn't matter in the Vintage class i race in too, (NY state) & i usually pick the 430CR out of my heard of Huskys. I've beatin
YZ 465's on my 83 250 but i sometimes think i have to ride harder. 81-84 Huskys have long travel suspension, 40mm forks & 17-18.5
c-c shocks that can handle the rough stuff better then most Vintage bike of the same era :D. You may get beat on the smoother
sections & tight turns, but you should be able to smoke them thru the whoops, But again alot depends on who's riding
what.

Some prefer the 83 up twin shock bikes and some prefer the 82 and earlier. I prefer, well when I could still ride, the 82 and earlier for MX. The reason I prefered the 82 and down was the shock placement. I have size 13 boots and the shocks on the 83 up my boot heels were always getting hung up on the springs, my problem not the bikes. Woods riding my 84 WR/XC 250 was my choice. My favorite MX bike is my 82 CR250, was a little low on power but a few mods cured that. I was faster on my 82 430 but I tired out faster on it than the 250, then again thats me not the bike. My 82 CR250 is for sale if you need a turn key or should I say a "flip the kicker out" racer!
