  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Acts Like Running Out of Gas

Last weekend, my son and I went for a ride on our 510TEs. His is a '09 and I have an 08. Prior to gassing up, his bike started to cut out and act like it was running out of gas. After he filled the tank, everything was fine and his bike ran well. Question: Is there a filter that may be dirty causing the bike to cut out when the fuel is low?

Sounds like the fuel pump has popped up out of it's seat. This makes them prematurely run out of fuel. I had that with my '08 and finally ended up using safety wire to hold it in place. There are numerous threads on this subject if you look through the four stroke section.

BTW- The cheap replacement pumps seem to cure a lot of issues with Husky EFI. Makes a good investment IMO.

How hot did the bike get before gassing up? Did the bike ever show any more symptoms throughout the day?

My 250 acted the same when the fuel pump had slipped from it's cradle, pushed it back, zip tied it and all good.

i know this thread is from a bit ago,but my new to me 09 te310 had the exact symptoms, pushing it very hard in single track it acted like it was already getting low on fuel at 27 miles...I packed gas in case I needed it and figured I would toss it in and be on my way...well you guessed it,it kept happening ot me and scared me enough to head back before being stranded. it would run out of fuel,i would roll to a stop and turn the key on and off and the bike would fire and on I went...got home and removed the tank, taking one of the bolt mounts right out of the tank, everything looks all stock in there and typically the pump had traveled up about a half inch,i safety wired it down and added a secondary zip ty,well I wanted to check the pump first before installing it,pump is makng plenty of noises, but no fuel comes out of the fuel line, figured my filter was plugged,so I removed the line of the filter and still nothing coming out!! im stumped and im guessing I need a new fuel pump? is there a way to test the function of the pump? I tried submerging the entire assembly into a container of gas and no fuel came out like I thought it would/should?

Submerging it into a container of gas and applying 12v to it, it should pump 43 psi out of the red elbow. If not, take the fuel line off of the top of the pump and see if gas will pump out of there. If it does, you may have a filter or pressure regulator blockage.

thanks for the reply,i plugged it in to the factory harness and did submerge it, I took the line off the pump before the filter and nothing is coming out, pump seems like its working, can the regulator be cleaned?

drats..ok I was kinda hoping it wasn't the pump..but wishful thinking I guess, thanks again..

Do one more check before buying a fuel pump. The plastic filter inside the tank could be cracked, very common. Just take the fuel filter and squeeze it with your hand and look at the seam. If there is fuel in the filter you will see it get wet at the seam. If it is cracked your bike will not get the right fuel pressure and pop and carry on starving for fuel. It's a lot of pressure to feed through that little injector. It can be replaced with an automotive fuel filter. Search for it on here, I think it's from a Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10? Those are metal.

Well..I already removed the filter line,so its just the pump right now...I thought of the filter being clogged...ill just man up and buy a pump

Hi Fury1; did this pump solve your issue? I´m having similar problems with my 2008 SMR 450, when going on low revs even on 1st or 2nd gear, it runs awful! weak and stutters, when I stop on red lights it stalls and sometimes even in neutral it also stalls. I´ll like to know if these pumps fit and work fine. Thanks.

Check some stuff before you buy a pump:
Replace fuel filter with a Duralast FF3330DL or equivalent
Check and clean fuel injector micro-screen.
Check in-tank hoses for cracks and leaks, hose from the pump to the filter and hose from the filter to the pressure regulator.

yes a new pump solved my problems, exact fit and great customer service..but mine didn't have the same symptoms as you describe, mine just ran out of fuel while going up or down hills and then while pushing the bike hard in the tight trails, just run out of fuel and quit, turn key off and on it would restart and run fine...I had taken my pump out of the assembly and submerged it in fuel, nothing but a weak sound coming out of it, no fuel pumping through at all...

You dont have one of those little breather ball caps that replace a fuel vent line do you?

Those cause all sorts of problems and can easily put a vacuum on the tank. The bike starves for fuel and then is good after fueling as you restore normal flow/suck.

I have seen this a ton of times and am a big advocate pf plain old hose overflow.
