Took off my shock today of my 87 WR 250 it has the blue spring. Backed it all the way off with the adjuster nuts and can't get it off. I guess I will need a spring compresser. Never needed it for my yellow spring 87 430 CR. Is this normalfor the blue spring.

I never had mine off....but I'll be watching this thread. Good luck. Do you know the spring rate of the blue?

    that's an aftermarket spring
you need to loosen the nut then push down on the spring and pull the retainer
but a compressor is more civilized

Who makes it? Spring rate? I always wondered if my spring was from Ohlins or Husqvarna. (it was on mine when I bought it)

I have seen a blue spring on few Husky bikes. Never thought of it as a aftermarket part. Do know it is longer then the Oliens spring.

the stock springs are yellow and have a 3 color code on them at the last coil
    this is an aftermarket spring
they are not bad or good just set for a more specific weight and style rider somewhere in the life of this bike
they are measured in KG and length, basically weigh capacity and length
most shock builders or rebuilders have a chart to adjust for weight and impact of landing or whoops, etc.

I found notes I made over 20 years ago. The yellow spring is 4.7kg & the blue is 4.9kg. The CR shock is 7mm longer than the WR (at least on the 87-88 430's). Maybe the spring on your bike is for a CR shock or at least one that is longer than yours. I saw on Hall's parts book for the '87 two strokes there are different spring weights marked with different paint code colors (the paint smears on the end of the spring). My notes on spring color is over simplified & maybe not all the info needed to determine spring weight. I have to look at the paint smears on my spring.....I'm curious.

    all 87 88 springs are yellow with 3 marks such as purple/black/purple being 43 N/mm., purple/red/purple being 47 N/mm.
there are 5 different spring offered 43 to 51 N/mm.

Yes 2premo, I remember seeing the paint on my spring but I don't remember the colors on mine, Now, if we only knew the spring lengths maybe we could help out photoguy.

That blue spring appears to be a Works Performance spring. All Ohlins shocks on Huskys, (and other bikes) came with yellow Ohlins springs. The earlier Ohlins springs had the 3-stripe paint code and the newer/current springs have numbers printed on the spring to identify the spring rate. As stated earlier on this thread a spring is a spring is a spring etc. If you get a spring with the desired rate you only need be concerned with the spring diameter and length. You can even use a shorter spring than what is required and use a spacer to enable use of the pre-load adjuster rings. Just be sure the spring doesn't coil bind, (bottom out) when fully compressed.
As to what the spring rate is on the blue spring any compatent shock rebuilder should be able to measure the spring rate with the spring loose and removed from the shock. He can then see if this spring is correct for your weight, style of riding and skill level.
