hi, I have jumped into the Husky thing hard, and deep..I bought 3...2 appear to be similar the 88 430CR,and the 87 430WR...what are the years compatible with these ? 86-87-88 ? How close are the WR, and CR models ? Is it the gearing only, that differs ? I did not see a service manual listed for it ... is it available ? I hope to be riding the CR soon, once I've repaired, or replaced the left side cover, and made any necessary repairs to the kicker mechanism. Its a runner...I ordered an engine gasket set from HVA this eve for it...$150./shipped ! SHEESH ! The WR bike is approx 70% complete, with the motor in the chassis, but partially disassembled...I'm gonna need a manual ! ...
The 3rd bike, for the curious, is a '93 260WXE...its 100% complete, and will run, but needs some attention...I received a complete Athena gasket set with it...and a clear MD title is on the way too.
I will be having alot of silly questions... thanks in advance !

the 87-88 share parts, some parts from 85-86 will also work
big difference is plastics and seat are 87-88 only, the front brakes and forks are different from the 85-86 as the early ones had smaller shoes and a floating rotor
the rear suspension is different for the 87-88, the rear brakes are 86-88 common, most engine and exhaust parts can be interchanged, the side cover is different from the early ones as it got an extra screw above the kicker
    hope this helps
got any pics of your new prizes?? the bike on the left is an 85 and the one on the right is an 87

here are a couple of more close up pics top is 87XC430 below it is is 85CR500, for some reason it added the 87 at the bottom too, the subframe on the 87 is a WR that offers a hoop above the rear fender and has proven to be handy for crying as well as towing broken bikes back

If you have an 87-88 cr, thats the one to save. It is much more rare than a wr. The width of the rear brake hub and shoes are diff between the cr and wr. I think the cr's are wider {better braking} pics would be great.

Try and not do 1986 for interchange it will simplify matters there are a lot of things different that are not mentioned above.

I believe the cr version has a 5 speed transmission and a different primary ratio to go with it. While a service manual might be a bit hard to find, I do not have one, the parts sheets are rather easy to find and download. Those have break downs for what piece goes on what model for each year.

Models that say cross country on the swingarm are xc models at least to me and the fork length kind of looks like that in this case.

The one that does not have a decal on the swingarm and no rear loop near where a license plate might be has the tank and radiator shrouds that would indicate 1985 or 1986 at least the way things were sold and the manuals read for this market, USA. Looks like the 87-88 kickstarter though.

While we are at it can people with a cr/xc and a wr comment the measurement from axle to seat bolt under fool droop so I can figure out if the wr I'm getting still has the spacer inside the shock . Cheers

I recall my CR/XC tire to fender was a little over 13", never measured swingarm up

a lot of parts are interchangeable
the CR brakes are the same on all 85-88, hubs, backing plate etc.
the 85 XC/WR are different than 86-88, in 86 they used a strap type connector and 86-88 used a boss on the swingarm for the backing plate
but a ton of parts interchange, example the pipe has a rotated mount 85-86 vs. 87-88, but if you use the mounts they work
the silencers are different but will fit, the subframes will swap but 85 has a zip tie mount vs the slip in mud protectors of 86-88
Husky was pretty good about using the same parts
the forks are different due to brake mounts, but can be swapped as a unit, as in front wheel and fork swap, of course use the proper master
internally the forks did change over time, but again can be used year to year, my brother put his 85CR fork guts int his 87XC (he preferred them)

I checked my bike with the CR shock. It measures around 61cm or 24". Thats "full droop" or fully extended. So, whats yours?
