Had a quick search . Nothing obvious
Can anyone comment on the differences between these two heads . Specifically if I can use a 430 head on my 82 500 ?
Will it blow up or be horrible to ride ?
I see talk of the opposite to achieve lower compression on a 430 .
I have a decompressor so that's not an issue . Will be fresh piston at 87 mm bore

Failing that can someone sell me an 82/83 500 head that's chewed up less stuff than mine
    Cheers

Note, there are two different 500cc heads and cylinders. One takes the normal head nuts like the 430/250's. The other takes the sleeved nuts. Post which one your looking for. I see the sleeve nut cylinder and head listed as a cr andvthe standard flanged nut head listed as a cr also. It can be confusing.

Everything 82/83 is long studs and normal nuts hence including that in the title .

Also contrary to popular belief the cylinder does come off the studs with the engine in the frame however you have to take the bolts out of the front mount and rotate engine down / forward a little

Squish domes way different. You will bump the compression sustantially and alter the thermodynamics radically.
    Also cooling fins totally different.
    Stick with 500

Thanks for clearing that up. You gurus know this there are a lot like me who don't know all this that's why I asked. Bill

It's confusing on eBay too they say all different years on these parts. We have to know what we're looking at.

Definitely true about eBay. The sellers often identify items incorrectly. Do a little research so you can identify your item on site... before plunking down the cash!

And husqyhamm is spot on. Take the time to find a real 500 head.

I purchased a 420 cylinder for $29 that's was called a 250. In the pic the bore looked big plus the 9 cooling fins was a give away? A 430wr complete with ignition was advertised as a 250 military engine. First it wasn't an auto and a looksee in the exhaust port showed a big bore. The hits just keep on coming. Mistakes on there part. We must know the parts inside out.
The biggest mistake I see is they call a late 70's 250 cylinder with the double reed intake a 82/83 cylinder. The intake transfer ports differ too in size. I'm still learning.

The serial numbers on the 250 mp is 2087. 1982, the numbers on the 82 430 is 2087 also. Count the fins. Easy mistake parts is parts.

    Just some food for thought.
