• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

630 Handguards?

Hey everyone, first post, just drank the kool-aid

Looking to see if people had any favorite hand guards/bark busters they installed? I'm pretty new to the SM scene, and haven't done much shopping for accessories. Looking for photos/recommendations.

I use the Racetech Vertigo. I've already tested them when I lost my rear in a turn. Some scratches on the plastic but nothing bend.

I have the Cycra. I just went down in a corner at about 30 mph last night. The left hand guard took a hit hard enough that it broke the mirror (even though the mirror did not touch the ground) but didn't bend the hand guard. Bill installed them with the mount that goes to the triple clamp. I think they also saved the handlebars from being bent. ATGATT saved me from some serious rash.

we sell many Cycra Probend CRM kits for the 610/630 bikes.they are strong, fit well, offer good hand protection, cable routing is not a problem and if any part of the handguard gets damaged it can be replaced.they are still made in USA so quality is very good.for $120 i feel it is an excellent handguard.dan

I have always used BarkBusters, but thats probably because they are alot bigger in Australia.

I have just ordered a set VPS BarkBusters (http://www.barkbusters.net/products/vps.html) from TwistedThrottle for my 630 that I should receive within the next week now that the postal strike is over in Canada. The only thing that sold me on them over the cycra's was that I liked the look more.....Not a big deal I know! It also helped that I know they have saved my hands many-a-time.

I will let you know how they install. The strength i would imagine would be similar to most of the other big brands that have the aluminum backbone, I know out of the many falls I have had they have never bent, only scuffed.

+1 to that being downed hard a couple times now on those Cycra's...they chewed up the impact and damage real well cant say the same about the body though....

I had Cycra probends on mine when I got it. Later on, I upgraded to Highway Dirt Bikes. They are a LOT more money, but worth the added cost!

I don't have a 630, but can attest to the HDB's being VERY stout and have the flip out mirror option. They appear quite pricey but you get upper and lower bar clamps (proprietary bolt spacing), threaded bar inserts, 2 pairs of shields (black and white) and a person on the other end that rides and gives a crap about his products!

I just put new grips on my bike yesterday, and discovered another cool feature of the HDB setup. You can loosen two bolts and swivel the guards out of the way to change grips pretty easily. Grip changes are a piece of cake!

I would like to order a set of the HDB handguards, but the bike is in transit from the dealer so I can't measure the topclamp. Does anyone have the specs so I can go ahead and place my order?

Thanks,

Jeff

I used Barkbusters on all my previous bike & found them to be excellent.

However the dealer fitted a set of Biketique hand guards on my new TE (3 weeks ago) and they are terrific. They look great, work well in terms of both blocking out the cold & protecting the levers (one low speed get off on the trail didn't even scratch them) and the aviation grade aluminum construction is beautifully constructed and looks to be really tough. They are new to the market here in Oz & knew they had to offer a great product to match the long established Barkbusters.

Their website is www.biketique.com.au. I've got the HG1 Adventure /Enduro Style Handguard
