510 Vs 610 is it worth it?

I'm thinking of selling my 610TE to get 510. I got more in to singletrack and would want a lighter bike. Is this stupid? How much do you think my 07 610TE is worth? It has 3k miles, new tires, Baja rear fender, skid plate, Leo pipe and the jet kit, carb screw, handguards, crg mirror and rear rack. I also have Sm wheels/tires and TE front rotor and 42T rear sprocket with a new chain.

Or I just should keep 610?

Have you had the opportunity to actually ride a TE510? That might help confirm your direction.

Far more traditional to keep your bike or ........ Get both.!

Guys on the Baja ride really liked their 610s

Your 610 is obviously not worth much. Feel free to drop it off at my house at your earliest convenience:D

Seriously, though, a test ride is in order before you get any further.

I would assume that it would be similar to 610 but lighter.

I have ridden both extensively. The 510 is a better dirt bike as it is lighter, snappier, quicker turning etc. The 610 is a much better street bike. That's the decision. if you do a lot more street keep the 610. If your only on the street to get to the next trail or short street rides the 510 would be good.

BTW the 610 is a pretty hot item right now, you should be able to get good money and sell it quick. I know people looking for used ones are having a hard time finding them.

I'd love to have a smaller lighter bike for doing some more aggressive trail riding but it would have to be a second bike because I don't think you ever pry that 610 out of my hands.:D

    where do you usually ride?

    distance?

type of bikes that your friends ride?

    your physical size?

what type of terrain makes you grin?

Yeah the 610 is a great do-it-all bike, the best one out there IMO. Fact is though if you want to do real snotty tight stuff the smaller TE's are the better choice. Like others have said, if you are going to spend considerable time on tar with it then the 510 will not be as pleasant. I've got an EXC for the technical stuff cause I want both, but the 610 is remarkably light and nimble for it's size. I wouldn't enter an enduro with it, but it could do it. Question is could I? :D

I say keep your 610, and get a 2009 TE310 for your ST weapon!

It makes me drool just looking at that bike...

You would have all the bases covered with a 610/310 combo. :D

I ride at local OHV parks, trails near Lake Tahoe, Death Valley and other interesting trails. My friends have KTM 640A and BMW XChallenge with extended tank range. On our rides we do about 50-100miles in one day. I ride street only as needed. I truck the bike and for the street I have my 1098.

If your riding buddies have a BMW and a 640 adventure, then keep the 610.

If your riding buddies have 450's then get the 510.

Either way you will be one step ahead. :)

Dirt bikes are like wine. Red with steak. White with fish. And if you are really into it then ya need a third bike too.

Hear hear...My idea is keep the 610 and TRY to get the 310.. have ridden the 510..an 04.. very Slick bike indeed, so quick and direct. The 610 however, does it all, just a touch a slower...and has range to get there and back..Cant see the 610 leaving, unless its for a new 610.

Looking at what your friends ride, the 610 is the way to go.

But, as has been said. Test ride a 510 and see if you like it better.

I have a 530 KTM, but I ended up wanting a true dualsport bike. So I got the 610 too.

Ditto what everybody else said - keep the 610 if you're going to keep your same riding buddies.

I have the 640A and a 510. I cant say that I enjoy riding one the places I ride the others. So I'd also vote to have both if that's possible. Heck I considered getting the 610 to replace my 640...for a moment anyway.

The 310 looks like something I need to add to the stable. Anyone have one yet?

I built one a few years ago, 300 kit and ported head. Loved it except for the transmission ratios (06 TC250). Best hill climbing bike I ever owned.
