Just got a '08 TC510 to join the '72 500CR and '83 250CR and have read many oil threads but still not sure what to use. All I do is mx and it's 100+ here right now. Have been using Maxima since early 80's in the 2t. I know oil always brings out some heated debates but I just want to make sure my baby gets the best protection. Thanks to all

You will find 2 schools of thought :

    1. The factory recommended oil is the only thing to use...

    2. Shell Rotella 15w40 works just fine and change it often...

    I am in camp #2.

I've got a 04 TE510 with a TC cam in it and a bit of headwork, I use Motul 7100.

Shell Rotella 15w40. But it at Wal-Mart in the gallon jugs. Cheap and very effective.

    thumper lube

I'm in the heat just like yorself. I use Thumperlube 20W-50. You'll be surprized at how these 4T engines rev these days and tear up oil like a lion though a herd of gazelle. In the heat, that heavy wieght stuff is all that really stands up to it. If you want to see what the inside of an engine that has been running on it for 2 years looks like, stay tuned to the "main" forum. I've got a pic you want to see. Expensive, but...so is the bike it's going in.
