  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250 CR Shifting Issue

motojason

Husqvarna
AA Class
I just put new shift mechanism springs in my bike, hook link spring and shift arm spring. I did not take anything apart in the cases. Only took off clutch basket and changed springs.

Now the bike will shift into first, but when shifting to 2nd and above it only engages the gear if the shift pedal is held up. As soon as the pedal is released the bike finds a false neutral.

I thought I put the parts in the same position but something is not right. Is there a specific position the drum needs to be in relative to the shift arm or hook link?

On the Clutch Cover there is a Pin that just looks like an Alignment Pin. It Does more than alignment, its also holds the Shifting Spring. When You install the Clutch Cover the Pin needs to go threw the Spring, and not end up with the Spring on one side or another. I'll bet the Spring is on one side or another.

I know the pin on the cover that you are referring to, will check that out. It should be in the center between the two spring arms. Thanks!

Stealing your thread Motojason for a Question.

When the gears starts to be "sloppy", like when you have to press the pedal twise to downshift and upshift.
What is it that is starting to wear out?

probably the piece at the bottom of your bottom picture. those nubs get beat up where they engage the shift drum

probably the teethe on the shifting drum and the hooks on the shifter arm. could be in the box in the dogs on the gears as well.

Helpful pics. Got my bike shifting properly again. Well, at least as good as it was before. I think the 3rd gear dogs are worn too, the shift from second requires extra precision and being completely off the throttle. Investigating that further will wait till winter.

I think this may be my issue. which pin are you referring to? what does it look like?

I think I found the problem. it's a little bushing that I may have left out #27.. thanks for responding. MikeIMG00356-20110623-2321.JPG

The spring is centered where the radius is in the case then the clutch cover with the pin lines up in the spring. Put the clutch cover on straight and parallel to the case.
