  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310R Did they fix the starter and fuel pump?

Ok, so I've been trying to decide which way to go as you may have read on other threads re: 2012 or 2013 MY. OK so they did the Red Head, better cams, valves, piston, blah blah blah.

What I have not seen is anything difinitive regarding the main issues people have been having with 310s. If they went to all that trouble to change the FI please tell me they were smart enough to fix the overheating, underperforming, and/or self detatching fuel pump that seems to generally be the bain of almost every 250/310 owner.

And then to the starter and flywheel key issues, well what about those?

I don't care if they plate the stupid thing with 24k gold, but if those items were not addressed by the Husky engineering team, that better engine will still be useless if the thing won't start and it does not have a reliable fuel source.

Inquiring customers want to know. Otherwise there is no reason to even consider a higher priced 2013.

"almost every 250/310 owner" ?

I have had zero problems with my 2012 TE 310. I'd say the red head gets you a bit more top end power but I'm not sure a good deal on a '12 is worth passing up for the perceived improvements.

If you want a 310, find the best deal out there and get one.... don't wait for the deals to disappear.
A good dealer will give you warranty support if you need it, you might be lucky like many folks and have a trouble free ownership experience. Don't look for trouble, just get one and enjoy it - don't overthink it.

That's exactly my point blakebird. You hit it right on the head. Since every bike is different I could get lucky. And it's for a beginner anyway.

Still waiting to hear from our gurus if the issues were addressed.

Alright leave all the Red Heads for me, wahhoooo!!

I have a 2010 TE 250 - and I don't know if those issues were happening on those bikes but I've only had problems with the fuel pump jarring loose. That said, it took less than an hour to fix for someone who knows very little about bikes. Other than that - bike fires up on first try each and every time immediately. The only other problems I've had were self-inflicted.

To me - going from one 310 to a newer 310 isn't worth it - regardless of the improvements. Only reason I would see this feasible is if you are a Pro rider and really use the bike 110% of it's resources. I want the new 2013 TE 310 because I'm coming from a 250. If I already had a 310, I don't really see it being feasible.

Every bike will have it's issues. If you tinker around enough on it though, you should be able to get it running the way you like.

I will compare it to this. I ski, and I always laugh at amateur riders who buy new equipment each and every year - skis / boots - from 2009 , 2011 then 2012. I mean, for their skill sets and how they ride - it's just not worth it. I ski on stuff made in the late 90s and I can burn by them with comfort.

Sorry I couldn't really help - just wanted to throw my 2 cents out there!

Also - could you in theory - if you owned a 2010-2012 TE 310 - buy the improved parts from the 2013 model and install them on the older version?

What the 2013 fixes is the fuel injection issues. The 2013 no longer needs a battery to start or run. While several of the xlites have had issues mine included I would have to say in my case it's more a problem with having dealers who don't have a clue what they are doing. So is the 2013 an answer to all the issues NO. Does the 2013 address and improve several key issues absolutely! If your concer is bottom end stuff like the key way and starter then you should wait for the next redesign. If your concerns were top end and EFI then this is your bike. Personally I would buy one and ride the hell out of it!

OK - I'll sell you my 70 hour 2012 TXC310 - you save money and I get a new red-head.
Why? I've never had any problems with mine that weren't caused by an aftermarket battery .. and I really don't need another 3-4 hp but .. I'd still do it.

The risk is that when you read web pages and are maybe unfamiliar with the product it appears the bikes have massive flaws. In reality this is far from the case. There are no systemic manufacturing issues with the 310's. I have never had a mechanical across my last 4 bikes-all huskies. Maybe lucky maybe part strong maintenance and dealer support. In the vast majority of cases thes bikes are trouble free. Only real changes are preformance or farkle not mechanical.

Just to had to the support for the 310 I have a 2011 done 90 hours 3600 km and had one warranty issue with an oil leak at 750 km no problems since. I change the oil every 500 km wash the air cleaner twice or three times in between oil changes changed my spark plug at 1500 km and 3000 km and checked valves at the same time but no adjustments required. I have ride a range of road trail, dirt track (9 hours no stop on one ride) and Enduro including a 12 hour. No starting or full pump problems. I run a rekluse clutch due to my skills lacking not the bike and I finish with a simle on my face after every ride. I also fitted a 5.5 ltr rear Nomad tank when I do the long rides this gives me around 260 KM range which is great. I would look at the 2013 model if the deal was good enough for the look, black frame silver wheels look good to me the rear shock is better and FI change has improved the bike according to reports. They raced the Red head 310 here in Australia for the factory team and it did realy well against bigger bikes. The other plus we have in Australia is we dont have all the emmission stuff you have in the US so the bike runs great in race mode. Happy riding the 310 like me.

I hear ya guys who are stepping up to defend your bikes. I've never had any of the ”common” te449 issues and it's only needed one TPS reset in 780 miles of smiles. It's been rock solid and tons of fun. I wouldn't even have this dilemma as it were if not for the total satisfaction my 449 had given me.

I have a 2012 TE310 250 miles trouble free. Electric starter has been perfect. Only minor issue is slight surging at low RPMs, much better after dealer remapped it. As on most forums, people only post their problems, I assume these are the exceptions, not the rule.

2012 TE310 with zero problems. TXC ECU and injector made it perfect.

The MY13 TE310 basically uses the redesigned BMW engineered MY12 TC250's redhead and components. I am told there are undisclosed changes to the lower end and mapping as well.
