After a lot of back and forth I've decided to purchase a husky. I'm just a little confused on what to buy. I've owned 05 KTM MXC and 06 CRF450r completely different bikes. I assume the 511 and449 are a lot moe like the ktm I owned. Are the 449 and 511 that different other then bore size? What did you buy and why?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dj

I have ridden the 449 and 511 back to back. The 511 has noticeably more power, not huge but enough to notice. For the $200 or so difference get the more power.

    '13 511.
3mm larger bore (=478cc), otherwise, identical.
Bought because I got a heck of a deal. Could have got a '12 WR450 for about the same, but I wanted something that could be plated. I'll be spending about a grand on necessary upgrades like a pipe, an upgraded UPC, a new seat, and suspension work. So, a "heck of a deal" will ultimately be "a decent deal". But, it's a better bike than I expected when I bought it. I'm astonished at the power it makes. A modified WR450 might be the same, I don't know. But for a duel sport bike at the price, it's.... really good!

I am in the same boat, I didnt want to spend 12K on a "DirtBike" that was plated. This does seem to be the ticket. What did you pay OTD and where did you buy it? I am set for Saturday but want to pay the least possible to spend more on the upgrades.

Paid $6,175 + all fees. OTD about 7K in California. I went online and looked at all Husky dealers in Northern CA. I called all of them. At the time there were only 3 (that I found) 511's left within a 6oo mile radius. Got mine at Good Times Motorsports in Sacramento. They still had a couple 449s. I recommend the shop. I got a friend that's purchased 3 bikes from them and has high praise of the shop. Don't know where you are, but the research in where the dealers are and what they have is worth the time. I found one listed in the Redding are and asked the Sacramento shop to match it. They did. From reading some of the posts, it sounds like they can be had for right around what I paid or maybe even a little less.

I just got off the phone with a dealer and quoted me $8,200 OTD. I just laughed. The sticker on the bike is $6399.

$7000 Out the door for a brand new 511 ? Did you buy from Ernie ? Mine was $7999 MSRP in 2011, OTD was well over 8K.

    I bought a TE449. After I wondered why for just a few hundred more I didn't get the 511? 20/20 hindsight.

The piston, cylinder and heads are different between the 449 and 511. It's an expensive upgrade post purchase.

Ya, I hate quoting prices on forums. It's bound to muck things up for people who have purchased or are considering purchasing. Yes, I got it from Ernie. But the only reason I got it that price was because they're closing the model out (late in 2013) which wasn't true in 2011 or 2012. That's the same circumstance for virtually anything on the market, motorcycles to cell phones.

I am surprised that the heads/cylinder are different (well, I knew about the bore.. but...). Why a 3mm bore would need a different head and cylinder, I don't get. Cylinder liner and piston, sure. But, it seems like a small difference.

Good guys. You know, I think my OTD was $7200. They were giving me a good price so I didn't nickel and dime the fees. They sold me the ECU jumper for $8. They wouldn't put it in though. It was funny. They pointed to where it went with a pen but kept 5 feet away. Maybe I look like an Agent.

If you live in OC, Sales Tax+Fees is $645.00, so 645+6499=$7,144 + Dealer Fees, which can be $300-$800...
