  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 TE449 Clutch Issues

AA Class
Howdy peeps.

Picked up my new, 2012 449 and have been reptty damned happy with it, with 1 exception:

The clutch is dragging pretty well. Gone through the break in and first oil change but it's still dragging hard with the cluth lever pulled in and the bike is in gear. Took it to thedealer last night, they backflushed the system and adjusted the clutch lever all the way out. Still drags. Any others experience this problem or have any suggestions for a remedy?

They want me to leave the bike there for a week while the y call Husvarna and try to figure something out.

TIA

I have the same problem with my bike but it only start at the end of the season but it so bad that I can't start the bike in gear,I talk to the dealer and he said to use a lower viscosity oil but instead I park the bike for the winter, will wait in the spring and warmer weather to see If problem go away but now remedy for now

I also have noticed the same issue, I have just reported it to my dealer this week and they are to look into it and get back to me. I will post any news I get.

Yes my TE511 was the same and still is a little at present, but nowhere near as bad as when I bought it. All I can say is that it will settle after 800 kms or so. Is your idle also too high perhaps ?

Yep my `11 TE449 does it, has allways done it. Not bad enough for it to be a big issue, usually will restart in gear when hot. My clock on the dash doesn`t hold the correct time. I find this more annoying. Normally when clutches drags it is an issue with the clutch plates sticking together, usually due to the fingers on the clutch basket being badly serrated, but this couldn`t be a problem on a new bike. An oil type or brand that isn`t compatable maybe, but I`m sure people are using lost of different, mainsteam types of oil. I`m thinking it has something to do with the clutch being ran off the crank. Unlike traditional clutches that are driven off the primary gear, they spin a lot slower than our 449/511 clutches. Thats my theaory, I will try to confirm this somehow.

I just picked up a 2012 TE 511 that has the same issue. Took it back to the dealer, thought maybe the clutch line needed bled. Dealer indicated they have seen this on both the Husky and Husabergs. He said to keep riding and we would check it again later. I have only had it out one weekend so far and it seemed to get better. Going riding tomorrow so will see how it is and whether it is improving.

My 2011 449 is fine. I will changing the oil to 5.1 dot from 4.0dot. I've been told the 4.0dot oil is not so good when its hot it becomes to thin. My clutch lever is adjusted to fully out with the dog leg part of the lever in line with handlebar grip stop.

My main concern is in warping the clutch steels. I can't get the bike in Neutral when at a stop. As far as never having the problem because you start in neutral, that has no value at all. I can start the bike with no issues. The problem is the clutch dragging when the bike is IN gear and the clutch is pulled in. Still no work from Husqvarna on this but the moment I hear something I will update here as well. Kind of a mixed bag of good and bad that I am not the only one with this issue.

I've heard the steels can warp but only under extreme and extended provocation. Race conditions would do this but you'd have to be hammering the clutch to have the steels warp. If others are having the same problem perhaps there could be a manufacturers recall. I'm not suffering this problem but who knows i may soon.

Road all day yesterday and the clutch issue does seem improved. It seems to work better after the bike is warmed up. When I first picked the bike up there was no way you could find neutral with the engine running. However, yesterday after running the bike for an hour or so, I could shift into neutral pretty regularly.

My TE511 improved heaps by the 800 kms mark.
Now at over 1000 kms it is not an issue for me.
I use Motul 7100 10W60.

Noticed same issue when my '11 TC 449 was purchased. The dragging has decreased over time and is a non issue now.

Man, I am for sure the luckiest TE449 owning sob around. Mine never has dragged or caused low speed stalls. Just over 220 miles and about to do first oil change. In fact never had trouble finding neutral on the first ride home, and no false neutrals either. I wonder if they get shipped dry and its to the dealer to oil it up with whatever they have on hand. Mines a late '11 btw.

You're not the only one... knock on wood... the only "problem" my '11 449 has exhibited has been my own lack of time to ride it! No clutch drag. ever.

Tried starting my bike in gear yesterday when fully warmed up and it starts easy.Im using Motul 7100 10w-60 and have 800 kms on the clock.

I wonder if it's caused by lack of oil circulation at the clutch or because the clutch spins faster due to it being crank mounted and gets less lube.... With mine in gear and clutch pulled in the bike will try to lunge when I rev it in gear.... I try to just hit neutral before a stop , my 2012 511 has no starting issues in gear.
