  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Has anyone had success simply removing the O2 sensor and installing the resistor without messing with iBeat, JD tuner, PowerCommander, etc.? I'm hesitant to do it if it is just going to create a different set of problems. I'm not looking to race, but it would be nice to have more bottom end grunt and midrange for trail riding. Thanks.

We have done it alot, works well most of the time, even with the 12 port inj/ECU kit still have to fine tune them in,thats where the JD tuner is handy. The OEM 12 port/ECU kit is awesome if nothing else just do that it really smooths out the lower end.

Thanks, Bill. Is the 12 port/ECU kit a "plug and play" proposition, or do I need to have a dealer do it to make software adjustments, etc?

When you swap out the ECU you should plug the bike into Ibeat or HST and reset the TPS. Generally the fuelling is pretty close but the TPS needs to be done.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the ECU and injector so I can have my local dealer order them? I'd buy them online, but if something is wrong, I'd rather have my dealer provide the parts so it is their problem and not mine. Also, when I look at the parts list online, I don't see a part number for the TXC air filter frame. I'd like to get rid of the restrictive TE filter frame while I am at it. Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate Cafe Husky. It is a great source of info.

What bikes started to include the 12 port / ECU kit? I thought it was the 2012+?

And what is the price? I have the JD Tuner on my 2010 te250 and that is a really nice little device. Pretty simple install , and easy to setup / program. It comes with a preset of parameters you can input, or experiment on your own that either riches/leans the mixture depending on where in the RPM range you are (low med high accel pump etc.). There are 6 different 'spots' you can do this - on a scale from 1-12 Ithink...

I don't have the 12 port / ECU kit so I can't speak on that part. Sounds like that is more about smoothing it out then giving more grunt.

But removing 02 sensor (plug) , taking out the cataylic converter, and removing the factory restrictive air cover - then tweaking it with JD Tuner made a real nice difference-smooth and power- (I also had to increase the idle rpm a little to around 1900-2050 to keep it from stalling). The JD Tuner is nice cause it fits beneath the seat, and you can really tweak it well by riding a little, opening up seat cover and leaning/richening the mixture on the go.

Before you jump the gun, try putting in the power up plug in. I simply put the plug in and my bike rode great with the stock ECU and 4 port injector.

Same for my son's 2011 TE 250, changed the rear sprocket and chain, removed restrictor in air filter, removed throttle restrictor, removed cat converter and lastly the power up after 2 months of riding (about about 300 miles).
Bike has run better with all that we removed. No problems having to reset anything. Stock pipe sounds pretty good, not planning an exhaust upgrade yet either.

Well, I ordered the power up parts (resistor, plug, air filter cage) from BMP and finally go around to installing them tonight. Best $50 I ever spent. The bike went from vrrrrooooommm to BRAAPP! and idles perfectly at 2,000 rpm. I don't think I'm going to need iBeat or a racing ECU/injector. Thanks to the guys with the conservative advice.
