  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So the Us will get a SMR in 2012 but the interesting part for all riders, it will have a 2.5 gallon tank. I know this is only a little larger then the TE models but it may be able to be swapped.
I'm just really excited because I really wanted to race supermoto and I always thought the Husky would be great. Big plans are going around my head and it seems I already have the OK from my wife as long as I stop talking about it lol. I wanted to use the racing for fun of course but to also raise money for disabled veteran programs, sounds like it's going to happen sooner then later!

BM-varna treatment of the USA supermoto/on road market is bizarre to say the least, what with the absence of 2011 supermotos and the nada-nuda...but I guess they're starting to fix it now

That's a good looking machine, I wouldn't mind putting one of those in my garage...
No 411 supermotos?

Buy a dirt bike and convert it.........
Closed course SM racing , you want small tank. Sucks I priced a 2011 TC tank to fit my TE and
the dealer said it ran a different fuel pump (in tank) and it would cost $ 900 +/-. So I will be doing fuel management to have the least amount of fuel in the big tank while racing. On the
plus side, I did a 100 mile ride from the beach in Santa Cruz to Alice's in Woodside and back
without refueling. Seems the little 250 is getting 54+ MPG ???

Muddy Waters-I assume 450SMR's didn't do as well based on them not having it. The local dealer here had said a lot of people called when he started about SM'sso I guess there were quitea few requests considering it is a late release. They seem to have a pretty good contingency program too.

Caimen-I guess it could be a typo, if not though I wonder if people would be able to use it on their own bikes. I know it's not a large difference but it would be something. It seems the tanks are the biggest complaints on the 449 and 511.

510 SM SC-I considered converting one from a tc model but I would still would want to ride on the street. I even considered converting a 310. I'm not concerned about a slightly bigger tank, I can afford to lose more weight then the 511 anyway lol. I can see where it would matter on the 250. Makes the front wider right? or is the tank just a little taller?

Get a TE and convert it for the street. I am thinking about a new 2012 TC 250 for my race bike?. I will
be racing the 2011 250TE/TXC/SMR next weekend first round SMUSA. All plugs drilled for safty wire, axle
and peg sliders and rad catch can" Check". I will swap out the rear fender (one plug) under the seat and front plate (3 plugs, the horn was removed) with my TC plastics. If I am happy with the results ? no need for another bike. I will do a ride report to let you all know
how the " Plated" 250 race bike did.......

How much did it cost you to do the conversion for supermoto? The kits I have seen that seem to be entry level are about $1500 one of the big reasons the SMR seems like a good idea. Only a couple hundred more then a TE. As far as being a real racer is concerned, I can see where the TC is a great idea. I'd just be racing to have some fun and promote some organizations that have helped my friends and I in the past.

Here in CA. I ride year round, lots of dirt in the winter, so having 2 sets of wheels and 1 bike
works for me. I spent a lot more than $1500 because of my wheel choice. You are correct on bike pricing. The SMRs are great bikes, but that big front brake will get you in the dirt and not to many options for 17 inch dirt tires.

Where did you buy those wheels? I thought they were a couple grand. Did you have to do anything special? You bit the original brakes with them? I guess I just need to wait for you to write about it lol

I like the idea of the 250 TE too because as you mentioned, I can use the dirt wheels here in Colorado. Plus it would be enough of a price difference to get the SM wheels.

Did you ever do the write up? Just curious how the race went and what you decided to do.

nope on the write up .... I have raced it twice, first race very small cart track
ran 13/47 gearing, The bike ripped I wish I had more time to Practice. The second race at Infinion big
kart track with pro dirt section, ran same gearing. The bike ripped although I wish I ran the 42 rear I
bought for that race. The big bore bikes got me in the long ass straight. I loved that straight on my
510 ... The 250 was light and agile in the dirt " I Cleared My First Triple " by accident Ha Ha.I was just
doing the double and rolling the third jump due to a hard right after and little run off. Grabbed a handful
on that lap (big pucker factor, for me) but the bike with stock suspension and big rotor in the
front did great. I was able to stop the wheel spin in the air before landing, to set me up for the hard right.
Never would have gone for that much air on the 510..... Big Fun !!!

Long story / short : Practice, Practice, Practice..... The 11 TE/SMR 250 rips.

Dealer just got a 2012 511 SMR in looks great, but I don't need one.

Decided to keep the 250 te rather then converting a TC then? What size wheel are you using? Tire choices seem limited ( we're for my WR250X). Most everyone talks about a 5 inch rim. Just wondering if it fits a 250.

The 5 " fits the 250 , but I think 4.5 would be faster on the 250, less wheel mass. I ordered a 4.5 but 3 months later when my order came in, QTM thought "because I said I would be racing it" with no regard to my order and tire choice sent a 5. Works great with the BT 003 150 (wide 150) but seems to have a wide contact patch " more friction" and grip than the 250 needs if
ridden well... and don't think a 160 for profile is any better gain ??? just more mass....

US spec 449/511 does have slightly larger tank than Euro bikes, not sure when it was introduced, maybe 2012 TXC? You can see the extra tank material exposed on the LH side under the subframe.

Wonder why they would't make them all 9.5L, you get an extra 20km from a tank!
