• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

hi
i have just bought a husky sm610 1998 left kick (no battery) and i am just getting it road worthy but have a question please.(could be 1997 model spec as it was first registered jan 98')
i am finding conflicting guidelines for the valve clearance on this model.
i have a manual that says the inlet should be 0.004 and outlet 0.006..... but then found on a couple of websites that it should be set to 0.002 on both inlet and outlet . could some one please clarify this for me as i dont know what damage it will do if i do it to the wrong setting.
cheers for any help offered.
thanks

Welcome Dave, The manual is correct for your bike at .004 and .006 thousands of an inch. The .002 you are seeing is for the electric start 610 which is a different motor.

Thats great, thanks for the reply. I had set them to 0.004 and '6 but didnt want to run it until i knew this was correct.
thanks again.much appreciated.
just a few more things to do on it then i can take her out.

On the E start models .002.
On the k-start models .004 Int and .005 on the exh.
to loose they beat the top of the valves up and ding up the adjuster tips.

Great to hear from you on this topic George.
Must help rockers and pins?
E lifespan/experience etc ?

Thanks for the info Up-tite, but unfortunately for me, this contradicts motosportz mike's post, so dont know what to set to now..... it is set at 0.004 and 0.006 at the minute and not 0.005 on the exhaust. Will this do damage or can i leave it at 0.006. I have never had a four stroke before so a little unsure, just had "Yappy-Jappy" two strokes before this. I just want to get it right (well, absolutely bang on, to be honest.... I have to have things done right) and planning on starting it up at the weekend and getting out on it.
cheers again.

yes i have read it again but still it contradicts .... i am really sorry and dont mean to offend but i dont know who has the most experience between yourself and "motorsportz mike"... so my dilemma is, who do i go with? obviously its my choice and my mistake if i choose wrong and quite possibly a costly one, who knows?????
i'll do a bit more research before i run it.
thanks a lot for your quick response, cheers.

When in doubt, I listen to George.

The input you got was off by 0.001 on the exhaust. Personally I would consider either 0.005 or 0.006 close enough, but I have never worked on or owned that bike - George has quite probably worked on hundreds.

+1 George helped me get my 410 running today, talked me through cam chain timing and valve check.

thanks guys for the extra input and to George....

sounds like George is "the man who can"
I will double check and set to 0.005
thanks again
