1987 430 Conversion To 50mm Conventional Forks

    so I bought set of Marzocchi 50mm conventional forks about 15 years ago
    they are the Magnums that came on the 97-98 and early 99 KTM's
    I was hoping to put them on my 87 430, I ended up selling everything except the forks, gave them to my brother
    so fast forward, he was asking about putting them on his 87 430
    I have been looking for a set of triple clamps for a 1998 Husqvarna as they also used those forks 1 year
    not a common item due to being used only 1 year
    the KTM triples are common, a few years of use and a bigger seller in that era
    so "the question"
    has anyone ever mounted a KTM triple to a Husky?????

    has anyone ever mounted a KTM triple to a Husky?????

    Yes I have, My avatar picture is a 1998 wr125 with 2004 ktm forks and wheel and axle and brake parts and 20mm offset triple clamp of that era. This is I believe 48mm upside down. I also took the new forks (maybe year 2000 or so) and triple clamps and wheel etc (license plate) and mounted them on my 1982 420ae one year to enter the snow run.



    From memory the steering stops come into play. My 1998 forks were 45mm ones being a 125wr. The lower clamp raised so I had to weld on a fixture to the front of the steering stem. You will most likely encounter this if the lower clamp is not straight across.

    Again from memory, There are bearings that fit the frame have to change the cone and cup top and bottom, think they are the ones that go with the ktm stuff and likely the Husqvarna stuff with the aluminum stem. say 2004 or so wr had steel stem with slot for lock and cr aluminum stem. I think the length of the stack at the steering neck is close and the all balls set has a shim washer instead of a thicker ktm part. Then the lower seal. I got it together ok and that was years ago, I think I could have made the length just about perfect doing something different if I recall correctly.

    It depends on what you swap around the trail. The offset of the clamps and the offset of the axle to the center of the forks. For the 1983 or so triple clamps with the rubber mounted handlebars my measurements seem to indicate the trail is virtually the same as original. For the clamps on say an 1987 at least wr or xc the offset is different at the clamp.

    The whole Husqvarna front end with the 45mm upside down forks will fit on real easy so long as the stem is the steel one.

    Yes I fitted a set to my 1991 610TE, 50mm Marzocchi Magnum conventional forks, they work great but the KTM triples limit steering lock to lock, partly because the bolts protrude to the rear and will contact the radiators if you try to increase steering lock, the Husqvarna forks of that era place the clamp bolts out of the way, toward the front from memory, having said this I believe the two stroke left kickers have more room for icreased steering, I didn't get to test this theory before I sold the 610 unfortunately. 95025531_523636694983430_7046645794782314496_n.jpg
