    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

OK I got my Husqvarna 430 AE spark problem fixed. Got it back together and it fired right up and ran fine.
Now it won't start and backfired a couple times.

Still has spark, cleaned the carb passages, jets, etc. Fuel supply is fine.
Compression is good.

Damn this thing kicks hard. I can see why some people use decompression setups on them.

Any ideas here?

has this bike ever ran or ran well while you have had it? are you running it with that flywheel thats losing its magnets? when you had the flywheel off, it still had its key?
 
New flywheel. Threw away the one losing the magnets. Bought non-running. Had it running for about a minute and after I shut it off, wouldn't start again. Backfired a couple times. Getting fuel, and still has spark. Key is in place in the crank.
 
Sounds like you've spun the flywheel.
The factory recommends lapping the flywheel at first time fitting.
You buy some valve lapping paste put a dab on the taper and work the flywheel back and forth on the taper for a while until the taper has turned grey then wash it up good and you will never have a problem with that flywheel/taper setup.
When the paste stops grinding the noise changes so put some more on.
The key is only for timing .
A deco is worth the trouble;)
 
I had the flywheel off after it wouldn't start and it isn't spun. Couldn't spin or the crank key would shear off.
 
well if the carb isnt dirty, the key is in place, and it has blue spark, it could be flooded or out of time..does the stator look like it has been moved? i like to check timing on a bike that i havent set it on to avoid meltdowns or miss out on performance. it has to be out decently to not run tho, as it will start ok set right at tdc..too far advanced it will definitely be hard to start, misfire, and kick back at you..i take it that it has a good plug? how did it sound when you had it running for a minute? no restrictions or mouse nests in the exhaust? surprising what can end up in a two stroke exhaust system. after spewing out live mice and about a cup or two of dog food another time i started investing in exhaust plugs!
 
If you only ran it for a short time then shut it off...that's a 2/ no no... leaves the plug in a cool, not warm state and easily flooded. so I would change the plug and go back to the cold start routine of choke no throttle and let it warm right up if it starts.... usually there is no issues but I have lost plugs on a few rare occasions doing this and trying to throttle start instead of choke no throttle... hope its this simple
 
so what happened that you have it running right now? helps make it easier for the next guy that has the problem you know?
 
Runs fine now. New plug, and had to twist the throttle about 3/4's to get it running the first time. Now starts w/o turning the throttle.
