I don't want to sound like a naysayer but the CR500 allready existed and looking at this I see nothing that sets it apart from other
the only guess I have is the year is not correct as listed, there has been some modification to this, obviously the lights, what, if it is as stated was the orignal fitting of parts, since the fische does not exist for "experimental" models we can only guess, besides "experimental" could also mean component testbed, as such who knows anything about any or all attempts at restoration

I find the second set of shock mounting holes on the swingarm interesting, Husky swingarms are tough as nails & not that easy
    to drill thru.
Plus, it's Ebay, so take what's written with a big grain of salt. Like this past weeks Barrett-Jackson car auction, it
    don't mean much without documentation.

Please have a look at the rear hub from left side. That is not production 83/4. The rim is definitely 17". I found the exact same set-up on a mystery "84" 250CR LC 6spd which recently came into my possession.

god its in a dog of a state . and if anything that was better than they already was in use it be implemented on the next model . so the only appeal is the odd frame stamping . but then its useless because you can only restore it to what everyone else has .
the porting of the barrell could be interesting . but then if it was better the 85 would be the same as it

I think this could be Billy Grossi's bike from '82, or just an '83 prototype from '82. The frame is silver, and look at the swing arm between the last lower shock mount and the axle. Its been cut, extended and has a "patch" there, EXACTLY like the Grossi 500 and was it Bigelow's 250?

    Could it be?

There are some differences, the eBay bike has "pusher" style rear axle adjusters and this bike has traditional puller style, the eBay bike has a black painted cylinder, blue '83-'84 shocks, but none of that could not have been done later.

Cool stuff going on with the Bigelow bike to get the rear suspension working correctly. I was lucky enough to see it in person as it is only a couple miles away from where I live and the owner was generous enough to show the bike and share some stories about it. I could never own that bike as I'd be way too tempted to ride it.

I also notice that Bigelow's bike has the trick bolt-on footpegs, while Grossi's 500 has the traditional welded version. I'd sure like to get some of those side panels... to fit the 83/84 frame and look like 82!! SaWEEEET!!

Good to hear. I was looking at the frame number, it looked more like ESP rather than EXP? A Spanish link? What does the engraving look like close up?

    Hi Hman. I also collect, restore, race 500 2Ts and 500/510 4Ts.

I noticed your "proto" 500 for a number of reasons some of which coincide with a very odd "84" 250LC CR which came into my possession end last year.
Nothing strange about the frame and engine no's, though much of the componentry on this machine was certainly not production 84.

Lets start with the wheels and hubs. On my 250 its the same as on the 82 Grossi 500 machine. The hubs are what appears from a '82 125 with single leading shoe up front 17" rim at rear and no stamped production nos on either rim. Particularly the rear hub ive never seen on any normal 83/4 machines and to my knowledge also not on 81/2 machines 250cc and above.
Can you check for number or date stamps on the rims and also post a pic of the left side of rear hub?

    Yours sincerely
    HH

with a little more research ive found it to be an 83 prototype identical to grossis with a puller type adjuster on the left and pusher on the right, the frame is silver and the swing arm again identical to the grossi bike, rear rim is 18" and the cylinder has been paited black with a brush!(badly)
