  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1983 Husqvarna 500 WR project

Hello, recently picked up this old husky off of a friend, had to order a clutch cable for it so I havent ridden it yet, bike is in good shape although a bit dirty. Gonna clean up and get it running this weekend. Mechanically seems like a very nice bike. Any idea of what a selling price would be for something like this? I'd love to hang on to it but gotta put some money towards college. I can't find any other 500 WR's for sale at all...I'd really like to get some new stickers for it too after I clean it up. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks!image.jpg

couple hundred more than what your friend let you have it for sounds pretty good. you have the parts its missing? look around on here, they go for a few hunderd to a few thousand, depending on condition. hard to tell from pics but looks to need more than an oil change

Be careful. No carb, no kick start lever, no side stand, no chain tensioner, no chain guard....the list goes on. Seems original but has been scavenged for parts. I would pull the barrel and head off it as a minimum so I know if there was dirt inside the engine before attempting to start it up. I would also fit a decompression device to the head. A great restoration project but unfortunately will need more than stickers to get a good price. Good luck with it!

the question is it the seat or the side panels that got changed cuzz that aint right you need to do some number checking and make sure of what you have there

It looks like the tank is riding too low, likely missing the rubber bumper between frame and tank. Side panels just looked messed up, maybe warped from heat, hard to tell from picture. He lip not tucked under the seat properly.

i agree, just looks like panel not installed right. what was the thing with blue, black, and yellow seats?

well poop i guess i forgot to hit post reply [ like hours ago] slosh is right and im sure it was 83 only

Oddly enough this Bike looks to be in very near condition to the 84 250 WR I bought 3 years or more ago that I just completed. Is there an issue with people stealing the Air Box and Carb's ? Mine were gone to, that being the reason my bike sat for 25 Years allowing the Crank and Main cases to Rust. I considered the most valuable part on the Bike the early 84 250 AC Cylinder, like wise the 500 Cylinder on this Bike. Is that 83 only Tank Dent Free ? No mention if the Motor Kicks, or in this case Rolls over. The location of the Bike makes a big difference. For what its worth
I paid $300, a diamond in the ruff with the original Tires, all it needed was to Pop the Motor loose and find a few missing parts. We all know the out come, 3 years and 3K later...
